Conor's ascension to double-championship was far more impressive than Pereira's. He absolutely dismantled Alvarez after having knocked out the greatest small fighter of all time in Jose Aldo in a Proper 12 seconds.
Also, if Pereira fought the weightclass-equilevant of Khabib he'd get beaten FAR WORSE than Conor who actually took rounds off the GOAT of MMA grappling. Both Conor and Pereira had/have losses, but Conor's wins were more impressive and his MMA stand up is on a level above Pereira.
There is a big difference between short notice and a short notice change of opponent. Nate Was on vacation drinking when he got the call to fight Conor, Mendes was on a hunting trip.I don't believe the whole cherry picking thing. Mendes on short notice was a dangerous choice. Also fighting a bigger guy like Nate on short notice at 170. He didn't care who was champ at 155 either, RDA, Eddie, Khabib etc.. didn't matter. He could have fought Faber instead of Nate, that was an actual option given to him... People want to spin it like Nate was the easy option but Nate was the most popular option. Biggest payday.
Conor got more love, more hate, more money, more opportunities, more clicks, etc...
The amount of hate he gets is just a biproduct of the amount of attention he gets. It has nothing to do with performance. Most people's reactions to fighter A vs fighter B have FAR more to do with who they like, or that fighters persona than accomplishments.
Obviously there is no honest, good faith argument that Conor winning 2 belts back to back in absolutely lobsided embarrasments against great, thoroughly pedigreed, reigning, lineal champions is anything but astonishing. It would be a silly thing to argue. And Conor did get the absurd amount of praise he deserved. So if you dislike him, and you can't be mature enough to give credit to that accomplishment, you have to look for an asterisk.
I remember when Conor move to LW and Nate beat his ass, If I'm Nate I would never give Conor Rematch like he never did the Rematch for Aldo.
I couldnt have said any better. CongratzI know this is bait but Conor didn't earn his title shot at 155, Pereira at least beat a ranked opponent at 205. Also Pereira's record at 205 in the UFC is better than Conor's 1-3 at Lightweight. Conor did get a lot of unjust hate back before there were legit reasons to hate him but.... He also had a ton of hype. Another obvious point is the personalities, Conor tends to rub a lot of people the wrong way. Pereira seems like a nice dude.
And didn't even drop the old guyBecause it's not 2016 anymore.
The last relevant thing Pereira did was become champion.
The last relevant thing Connor did was avoid extortion for frisking a woman in a public toilet. Before that he left the cage on a stretcher. Before that he punched an old dude in a bar.
