Why do the Knicks hire Phil Jackson?

This proves James Dolan is such a dimwit, he doesn't think things well. It's a lose-win situation, lose for New York and of course, 15 mil a year doesn't hurt, so this would be a win for Phil.

It would be understandable if he'd coach, but a FO position is the worst job that you can give him. Who would wanna deal with him? Opposing GMs hate Phil and will slam the phone if ever he's calling on the other line.

He's a 12 time champ and 2 with New York and he played there. Yeah terrible choice lol

Kbricks don't have draft picks or cap space to improve their player personnel so might as well take a hail mary on a decrepit old fossil starting his first executive jerb at the fresh young age of 68. When you can't improve the talent of your roster, all you can really hope to do is improve the "culture" of the team.

I heard hes coming just to show Carmelo what championship rings look like. Since Melo is leaving after his year and he'll never get to see them

It's like spraying cologne to cover up a shitty smell. Instead of getting rid of it, it just smells like shit and cologne.

Unless he coaches, I doubt it's going to make them that much better.

Because he's a winner. Phil Jackson wouldnt've taken the job unless he had total control of the team. Either Carmelo rolls with it or he's gone.

Knicks are such a big time joke that this is the only way any player will take them seriously.

Yeah Im pretty confused myself. Its not like he has a great track record or anything. Never heard of him tbh.

Not this season they don't, but if Melo stays (and even if he doesn't), lots of things can be done in 2015. Full salary cap flexibility, and we have our picks. All Fill has to do is take out his treasure chest of rings during his pitch, and put it on the table.

He's going to take this year to evaluate the personal, and formulate a strategy. He's Zen, brah; Zen is about patience.

If he were to not opt out this offseason and then become a FA in 2015, they could sign him + another max FA in 2015

I am a fan of Phil Jackson. Can't say i like the Knicks, but i still wish Phil the best of luck.

They can do that anyway in 2015; even if he opts out.

It's better if he doesn't opt out. If he forces them to re-sign him this 2014 offseason, his new salary will be on the books counting against the cap when they go to sign 2015 FAs. If he plays out his contract next season and becomes a 2015 FA, they can sign other 2015 FAs until they're at the cap limit, THEN use Bird rights to go over the cap to re-sign Canmelo.
