My 4 year old has been running a fever the past few days, initially from cold/flu. We gave him tylenol to control the fever. Today my wife gets him antibiotic (ear infection) and we decides we no longer need tylenol unless he has a higher fever or gets cranky.
She calls now and says the external thermometer is reading 104.5 degrees on his head. Now the external thermometers measure skin temp, not necessarily internal temp, so I don't think his internal temp is that high.

I asked what's going on. He's laying in his bed, with a shirt, a sweartshirt, and a small blanket on in a room that's probably 74 degrees. WTF??? Can people seriously be that clueless?? Keep the Tylenol coming if he acts tired/hot and get those clothes/blankets off. If a kid is hot and you are worried about him overheating do you really think bundling up is the proper way to handle it?

Any stories you have of a clueless person in your life?

Well, TS, I can tell you this; the one thing about common sense in this day and age is that it isn't really all that common.

You know what really lacks common sense? Having children with people who lack common sense and then publicly complaining about it.

But seriously, I feel you TS. It can be annoying.

LOL, are you bagging on your wife in a sherdog thread.

Awesome.

Did you know that one technique of lowering a fever is to get the body to perspirate? Yes, ask your wife to see if yo shorty is sweating, and then check his internal temperature.

You dont really want to take the clothes off because he might get the chills. My son had PFS, Periodic Fever Syndrome. So dealing with fevers every month has been pretty normal for me.

I take it there's been enough common sense applied to have seen a doctor.

Ya, my understanding is that sweating can be good as long as the sweat can evaporate OK. If it's just clinging to hot clothes I can't imagine it would help. I have been wrong about something once though.

What the rest are saying. I think it might be good for the kid to be sweating as long as he's fully supervised.

Id just take him to the doctor if his fever goes on and off.

Good luck TS.

Talking to a buddy who saw the hobbit with a girl. She asked at the end if that was a dinosaur under the gold.

My dad was sick when he was really young. They couldn't get the fever to go down so the doc decided to try and break it. By wrapping him up, they even gave him a small shot of whisky. Sure enough he said he just started sweating bit time and the fever just started going down. Weird.

I don't get sick hardly at all, and a couple years ago I had a fever for the first time in I can even remember. Had it for about 3 days, and I knew one night when I woke up in the middle of the night and I was just soaking wet that I had got over it. I didn't feel hot anymore and I was doing fine after that. Tired as shit, 3 days of fever will ware on a guy, but fine over all.

He should have told her yes, it's called a Smogasaurus, and just left it at that.

Was it starting a thread bagging on your wife for being an idiot? I bet it was. I say throw the little fuck in a tub of ice water, that should lower his temperature real quick.

Kidding! I'm sorry, that was terrible of me, I hope he gets better, your wife too ;P
