Why do people attribute GSP's success due to his "athleticism."

This makes absolutely no sense.

GSP is in no way faster than other guys. His timing isn't better. He isn't stronger by nature. GSP is no Melvin Guillard. He's no Anderson Silva.

GSP is the product of hard work and smart training. Physically, he has nothing these gifted fighters have. He isn't BJ Penn.

GSP strength is because he works hard in the gym. His takedowns are due to constant practice and technique. Face it, his takedowns are not unusually "explosive," its just been refined through practice. His reach is not long for his division either.

Any normal guy could be GSP if they trained as hard as he is. The only thing he really got going for him is that he is intelligent enough to know what he needs to train practically.

So because he has trained to get athetletic he isnt athletic? Im sorry but i really dont get your point

Saw this coming.

I didn't hear anyone saying this.

GSP's success in fighting is due to his superior killer instinct.

Can't even stick the landing on a backflip. He's a C Level athlete

Well he certainly has a very quick shot.

But yeah, I've heard people say GSP only wins because he's more athletic than everyone he fights, which is horse-shit.

In reality he's just more well-rounded, and uses better strategies than everyone he fights.

The entire line of questioning doesn't make sense to me. Successful athletes are athletic.

Actually, he is an A-level athlete because his sport is Mixed Martial Arts not American Football.

Moreover I doubt he rehearsed that particular move very much, probably just a heat of the moment kinda thing. he's obviously not taking it too seriously, just look at that grin lol.

Gsp had legs like tree trunks. He was definetly faster than his opponents and had freakish balance.

That's wrong. For one, he has a 76 inch reach, which is pretty damn long for someone who's 5'10. For another, he is known for being a really strong guy, as Rashad, as long time training partner of GSP's, has said on video that he doesn't think GSP is much weaker than the average LHW after grappling with him.

Not to mention GSP wrote the book on how to develop an explosive shot in MMA. He's got an incredibly quick duck under and the power of his shot is just crazy. He literally lifted Alves's legs horizontal to the canvas on a double leg. Just picked em straight up.

So I disagree. GSP is the combination of technique, hard work, and athleticism.

Well some people say Forrest Griffin got really far even though he isn't athletic.

I have heard on this forum before arguing that GSP is champion because he is one of the most athletic guy.

Rogan and Goldie loved bringing this up during his fight with Condit.

There are so many hours in a day and more importantly so many hours the human body can take training. He is part athleticism and part fast learner. He developed elite level take downs in a very short amount of time. You don't do that simply through hard work.

Lol at you referring to his strength as if he never went to the gym to obtain it. If Nick Diaz tried lifting some weights, he would probably be as strong as Georges. The more weight you lift, --> stronger you are. That's common sense. You can't say "he's successful because he is stronger than others." Well anyone can get strong.
