We frequently talk about Conor looking terrible but Poirier had no answers whatsoever for Khabib anywhere. His striking was looking sloppy by two minutes in and he had nothing for the takedowns and ground control. Poor performance from a fighter who has shown more in the past.

He was worrying too much about the TD so when it happened so fast and easy he got into a little shock.

In hindsight Conor looked pretty good compared to other guys imo.

it’s because khabib was supposed to be beat on the feet and he got in the pocket with one of the best strikers in LW (Poirer) and khabib channeled his inner Anderson Silva

Bc he had it in his head he wouldn't get taken down or out grappled bc he worked so hard on it and it happened so easily he mentally broke and was lost bc he didnt know what to do bc his plan failed.

that's what happens when you are up against the best in your division!

Plenty of boxers looked lost against Floyd when he was active

Khabib is just a fantastic fighter and like Floyd, he will take your strengths away and make you fight his kind of fight

Nobody is unbeatable, but that guy is going to be a tough nut to crack at 155

"I can't get him the fuck off me, man." - Poirier

Threat of the TD makes you second guess everything you do in a fight..

The arena was too hot imho.

Room temperature Dustin beats Khabib 9/10 times.

I think Michael Johnson had mentioned somewhere that fighting Khabib is like fighting a light heavyweight.

Although on twitter, Poirier had responded that with Khabib is not strength thing, he said he had fought stronger guys, but instead it is about technique. He probably didn't have much of an answer for choices that Khabib made.

Not lost, just terrified of getting taken down and pounded. Aren’t all his opponents in the same situation?

Poirier's a pressure volume striker, which means he'll do his best work at close range without the threat of a TD. He's never been the most skillful striker, and he's not deadly from range. Made it a easy match-up for Habeeb.

Terrible gameplan that had him in no way prepared for the fight, that's my guess.

Why would you repeatedly back up to the cage?

Because Khabib is the best. That's what he does to people.
He gets a hold of his opponent and they are in shock.

Poirier panicked because of Nurmagomedov's pressure, which is why Poirier tried to go for a knockout in the second round, and then was gassed after that point.

In hindsight Conor looked pretty good compared to other guys imo.
And McGregor also committed at least 18 fouls against Nurmagomedov:

Round 1
(1) Grabbing shorts with his left hand.

(2) Strikes to the back of the head, (3) 12-6 elbows, and (4) grabbing shorts with his left hand.

Round 2

(8) Kneeing a downed opponent.

This couldn't have been anymore flagrant; it's not like they were in a position in which it was difficult for McGregor to assess whether or not Nurmagomedov was a downed opponent.

(9) Grabbing the cage with his toes.

(10) Grabbing the cage with his toes.

And this foul was done right after Dean had already removed McGregor's toes from the cage.

Round 3

(14) Hooking fingers into opponent's glove and (15) strike to the back of the head.

This might be one the most obvious signs of Herb Dean's incompetence/corruption: McGregor had hooked his fingers into Nurmagomedov's glove for 24 seconds in plain view of Dean, and not only was a warning not given nor a point deducted from McGregor, Dean actually gave Nurmagomedov a warning for inactivity.

Round 4

(16) Grabbing the cage with his right hand.

(17) Grabbing the cage with his toes.

I was surprised how Poriers arms turned to lead after a round of grappling. I know Khabib is a beast but Dustins arms were shot.
