I think he lost because Strickland had the perfect style to combat his own. And Strickland put a magical performance, unfuckenreal.

I don't think Adesanya got slower or anything or he wasn't himself per se. He just lost to a guy who matched up very well against him.

And that happens.

Styles make fights. Strickland is a good point fighter, and Adesnaya tried to point fight him.

The most notable thing to me was Strickland checking kicks, making Izzy miss with punches, never really overextending, and generally just having excellent defense. It visibly frustrated Izzy.

Strickland studied tape on him, and Izzy did not study tape on Sean. He thought that Sean would be mezmerized by his striking and feints, but Sean did what he has been doing for a while now - steadily pressuring his opponent on the feet, using solid fundamentals to get the job done.

Strickland's coach, Eric Nicksick figured Adesanya out after watching Pereira beat him.

Sean's striking defense got way better and he applied the right amount of pressure. I was expecting Izzy to get the better of Sean in one of the exchanges, but that opening never came for him because Sean didn't overcommit to striking with him he just continued to fight his fight.
