Thing is, I was supposed to get access to the first seven episodes as screeners because I was interviewing some if the cast for an entertainment site. They fucked it up and neither I nor my editor got access. I had to call it in the ring brother.

On the fourth episode, so far VERY good. Strong writing, surprisingly good acting, great pacing, consistent tone, solid cinematography, overall fucking fantastic episodic fiction portrayal of pro wrestling in the deep south.

It's a good show it its core, but there's some holes in the writing. It's getting harder to empathize with Jack, the main character, and too much time has been spent on the competition with the other organization. The show is at its best when it focuses on the drama between the brothers and their families.

I hope it gets a second season. I read that it's been well received, but the ratings haven't been stellar.

It's being reported that the show was renewed for a second season, which I think it deserved. Of the leads, only Crystal got any real closure for her character arc. Jack is still trying to prove himself as a promoter and a family man, Ace still hasn't gotten the fame and accolades he feels he deserves, Wild Bill has yet to redeem himself personally and professionally. There's a lot of ground to cover, and though the first season had rough patches, I hope they smooth out the road this time.

I'm glad they're doing a second season, quality show. Tighten up the writing a bit and it will be perfect. With AEW legitimately competing with WWE now and thus elevating the business as a whole, Heels could become a very popular show. People gravitate toward fiction that's based on stuff that's currently big in pop culture. If they market it right and start promoting it really heavy in the second season, very good things could happen.

Man, the wait on Season 2 is aggravating

Heels was renewed by Starz in November 2021 and filming wrapped in July 2022, but fans are yet to see any new footage or receive an official release date.

According to Stephen Amell, the reason behind the delay stems from Starz's split from Lionsgate.

"They are now in the process of, as best I understand it, 'untangling' that partnership,'" the Arrow star explained during a recent appearance on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast Inside of You.

He continued: "As they are untangling everything, they are figuring out which assets belong to whom. So as a result, we wrapped filming [season two] on the first of July and we don't have a premiere date, let alone a trailer."

Amell did go on to predict that season two would be available to watch in either the "first or second quarter of 2023".
