In muay thai, we have Apidet, Diselnoi, Samart and Sanchaei.

I just realized recently that they allow headbutts in Lethwei, and that shit must be the most vicious shit in the all of combat sports.

Apparently, there's this lanky Canadian guy called Dave who's apparently called a King of Lethwei, but it doesn't even look like he had much experience in it from wikipedia anyways.

So, who's the best Lethwei fighter of all time?

Tong Po.

If you don’t know you better axe sumbody.

Petrosyan (if he fought in lethwei)

Tun Tun Min and Soe Lin Oo get brought up a lot, but they are modern fighters and there are also old school guys that only Myanmar folk can tell you about. Its interesting because Soe Lin Oo has very basic technique but never loses and wins very often because he has godly durability and cardio. To a certain extent being the best in Lethwei is just a measure of these traits.

Tway ma shaung is defo up there in my opinion

He is retired now but u should check out his highlights

Honestly Le Duc seems like a very tough, aggressive dude with a hint of psychopathy but from a technical pov I am not convinced one bit.

He's mostly using his height advantage too, I mean he's 1m88 (6'2) and fighting guys like Tun Tun Min who are 1m75 (5'8).

Gonna be hard to say. This is a West centric board, and knowledge of Lethwei has only made it out of Burma in the last 10 years, so it'd be hard for anyone here to judge the greatest ever.

I asked that question @inxxane on twitter a while ago. He has a Lethwei schedule and tracks Lethwei fighter records.

it's Tun Tun Min. In lightweight it's Soe Lin Oo. Goat as in all-time.. we'll have to go back to the 70's as Tha Man Kyar was really popular then.

But you won't find video of him unfortunately. There's a few guys at the top, or first class as they call it.. but those two are probably the most popular. There is a bit of a shortage of top guys. Lethwei is in desperate need of new talent. Every show nowadays only has one main event with a top guy and the rest is all undercard guys nowhere near the experience or draw. Yangon's main lethwei stadium, Thein Phyu Stadium hardly sells out anymore.

tun tun min guy doesn't look good at all to me. I liked Tway Ma Shaung guy though, I guess he didn't mention him?

Just noticed that Too Too has a big Kyokushin kanji tattoo on his chest. I wonder how much Kyokushin they have in Myanmar.

A fair number of karate, judo and aikido clubs in Myanmar. I think one of the two Myanmar nationals who competed at the last olympics was a judoka.

I was going to mention the lack of pretty much any lethwei footage pre-2003 that Yodsanan brought up. I think the only footage I've seen is Akitoshi Tamura KOing Win Tun from maybe 2002? He just spammed takedowns and throws for four rounds until Win Tun was gassed then KOed him with a knee if memory serves. It's been like 15 years since I saw that fight though.

People spoke pretty highly of the old open weight champions but they were all old and out of shape by the time the vcd market was big in distributing the events. I know there was Wan Chai and another guy whose name I'm forgetting who was blind in onr eye from an eye poke in his career. Both wete huge by the standards of regular lethwei fighters though.
