Just saw it on a random clip.

Double over hooks, uses an angle and then throws, gets good amplitude, very well executed.

What was the dudes name, any ideas?

Shonie Carter had some excellent throws on TUF 4, I re-watched it recently. Similar except his starting position was the front body lock.

I'm gonna go back and screen shot them, post them here for posterity.

Don't know the guy, but the technique is a double overhook suplex, this variation is sometimes also referred to as souplesse, and my Greco coach called it a Leskinowitsch (after Jan Leskinowitsch, a pro wrestler from Nuremberg in the 1930ies). It's a classic Greco throw.

I just want to point out that one critical aspect of this throw most folks get wrong, and they typically get the same thing wrong when attempting a lateral drop.

It's not a "belly to belly" move.

The thrower has his shoulders and hips at an angle to his opponents shoulders/hips, which is what allows him to get that leverage and amplitude in the throw.

Most folks who don't apply this detail typically end up just pulling their opponent down on top of them, instead of launching them in a proper throw.

This was beautiful to watch, it's less usual to see someone in mma execute it so well (Shonie Carter understood the detail perfectly though)..

Ask in the UFC forum, theyll know for sure

I don't have Fight Pass, I don't have the DVD, and I can't find the fight online, so just going from memory and this image, it looks like it's Hermes Franca/Rich Crunkilton from UFC 42 (Crunkilton is the one throwing Franca). If anyone reading this can verify, please tell me in here that my memory is as good as I think it is and that I'm right with this call 😁

EDIT: Found a link to a better quality gif with confirmation that it's Crunkilton throwing Franca.

Damn, I'm good.

Richard Crunkilton did ok in the WEC. ;)
19-4 total with 15 finishes isn't bad.
Judo blackbelt too, gonna add him to my list.

What can I say? I'm a nerd at heart, I'm a fan of the old school, and I've seen those old events from the sport's first decade a billion times. I knew that was Franca and I knew it was an early fight of his. And I love in that video a little bit after the clip of Franca getting thrown by Rich they included him throwing Caol Uno onto his head. Win or lose, Franca's fights were always exciting and he was always game. His fight against Sean Sherk is one of my favorite displays of grappling dominance, with Sherk using his wrestling, BJJ, and phenomenal top control to dominate from every position, yet even so Franca nearly kneed Sherk's skull in half multiple times timing his incoming shots.

Old school FTW.
