Robert Drysdale is a tiny LHW and he was popped for elevated testosterone, so he wasnt using TRT for muscle mass.
What benefits does TRT acually give. I need this cleared up as I've been unsure for a while now.

Off topic - but your username name is my exact name on another forum. And I'm also Irish.

On the trt thing - one thing off the top of my head could be to help with recovery.

Drysdale has a book-full of medical issues. I am just glad he was finally able to fight. Guy has some of the best BJJ in the world.

Most fighters don't use steroids for muscle mass they do it to recover faster and train harder.

There's so much red tape around these fights. There should just straight up be a steriod league where guys can take whatever and just fight.

Drysdale has such phenominal bjj its such a shame we've only been able to see him in the octogon once and everyone knows how long and painful that process was

edit: how long and painful that process was and still is

Testosterone is a steroid hormone from the androgen group and is found in mammals, reptiles, birds, and other vertebrates. In mammals, testosterone is secreted primarily by the testicles of males and the ovaries of females, although small amounts are also secreted by the adrenal glands. It is the principal male sex hormone and an anabolic steroid.

In men, testosterone plays a key role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as the testis and prostate as well as promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased muscle, bone mass, and the growth of body hair. In addition, testosterone is essential for health and well-being as well as the prevention of osteoporosis.

Testosterone can be used by an athlete in order to improve performance, but it is considered to be a form of doping in most sports. There are several application methods for testosterone, including intramuscular injections, transdermal gels and patches, and implantable pellets. Supplement of the hormone results in lower metabolic production via the Farquharson phenomenon, creating long-term dependence for improved performance level.

Anabolic steroids (including testosterone) have also been taken to enhance muscle development, strength, or endurance. They do so directly by increasing the muscles' protein synthesis. As a result, muscle fibers become larger and repair faster than the average person's. After a series of scandals and publicity in the 1980s (such as Ben Johnson's improved performance at the 1988 Summer Olympics), prohibitions of anabolic steroid use were renewed or strengthened by many sports organizations. Testosterone and other anabolic steroids were designated a "controlled substance" by the United States Congress in 1990, with the Anabolic Steroid Control Act. The use is seen as being a seriously problematic issue in modern sport, particularly given the lengths to which athletes and professional laboratories go to in trying to conceal such abuse from sports regulators. Steroid abuse once again came into the spotlight recently as a result of the Chris Benoit double murder-suicide in 2007, however, there has been no evidence indicating steroid use as a contributing factor.

Some female athletes may have naturally higher levels of testosterone than others, and may be asked to consent to a “therapeutic proposal”, either surgery or drugs, to decrease testosteone levels to a level thought acceptable to compete fairly with others.

How testosterone affects you is the same no matter what you do as far as recovery of muscle tissue.

How you lift is what makes you gain mass. Explosiveness comes from those fast twitch muscles where your power comes from. MMA fighters don't typically train for hypertrophy and often avoid it to prevent excess muscle mass adding weight. Oly style training and general wear and tear from sparring and rolling is going to make you be able to train longer and harder.

Interesting, didn't know that. So all that Vitor bashing doesn't make all that sense?

I like Drysdale, his BJJ is some of the best P4P. And I believed him the first time he got busted that it was a misunderstanding.

fool me once.. you know
Kinda sucks as a fan.

They could call the league Pride Fighting Championships

Vitor has to remain under 185 but TRT does allow him to train harder than he would be able to without. Training harder often results in greater endurance and muscle and well as being able to stay more lean. There are exceptions of course.

Not to mention you can keep your muscle mass and strength easily while doing shitloads of cardio and conditionning and being on a restrictive diet..

Off topic but cant you keep muscle and strength while doing tons of cardio by eating more?

By restrictive I guess you mean that Vitor cant eat more because he has to lose weight.
