I was watching some grappling videos of Rumina Sato and was just wondering who is considered the best grappler in Japan? I've never posted in the Grappling Forum before but i just thought its a good place to find the answer.

Anyone? Maybe the Japanese posters can answer this?

Japan has very strong BJJ and many of their lighter weight guys make it to the finals of the Mundials.

Who knows? Grappling in japan is synonymous with MMA. You hardly ever see just pure grapplers or pure grappling competitions with the best of the best. I think the best gapplers are the ones who compete in MMA like aoki, imanari, and saku.

I think Aoki is very good, seeing him at the Bushido Challenge and ADCC I think he is very aggressive and well versed.

Megumi Fujii is awesome. She is only 50kg yet she is unbelieveable.

Aoki has the hype and the record to back it.
I personally like Imanari. Does anyone know if he's still teaching at the DEEP gym?

This is so completely wrong it's disturbing. There are def. way more PURE grapplers than standout grapplers that cross over to MMA in Japan. It's pretty much like Brazil there are som many BJJ, sub wrestling, grappling tournaments i myself couldnt begin to tell you who the best are. There are a TON of great guys here though, and more than likely most of them will never even compete in MMA!!!!

I choose Aoki. He's looked great in all the different outings I've seen him (BJJ, Judo, No-Gi & MMA). He's a finisher, and he's always adding to his game. He's a very dangerous opponent for anyone.

Ryo Chonan gets my vote, even though many will disagree. Maybe not the best overall grappler, but he can pull it off in MMA
