Dark Knight. And yes, primarily because of The Joker. Legendary performance by Ledger.

I can objectively say The Dark Knight is a better movie. It's one of the best movies ever made. It's a non stop thrill ride.

But as a lifelong Batman fan, Batman Begins was the Batman movie I always wanted and it was done so well. I remember a buddy made me watch American Psycho in 2002 and I said this guy should play Batman. Top that with an all around amazing cast (aside from Holmes) and it almost felt too good to be true but it actually lived up to my own hype.

So personally I prefer Batman Begins.

Batman Begins is a much better story and holds up more to repeat viewings. As far as origin movies, it is up there with Ironman. I was blown away when I saw both in theaters. One thing that kind of annoys me about the Dark Knight is that it doesn't even inhabit the world that Batman Begins created. It is like Nolan just gave up on it.

I thought the Joke was an amazing origin story but there is part of me that thinks of it as being different because it is and isn't a DC comic book movie. There are no super powers. No crime fighters. It is just about a guy going crazy. The performance by Phoenix is probably the best by a comic book actor.

Liam Neeson was good (because he’s Liam Neeson) but Ra’s al Ghul is a boring villain. DC lives off its villains, somebody like Blight from Batman Beyond is even better lol

The Dark Knight. Nolan takes everything he setup from Batman Begins and runs with it for the sequel. Acting, action and storytelling is just that much better in TDK. I don't think Bale gets as much credit in the film as he should, but his Bruce Wayne looks like a man with the world on his shoulders. Everything that happens in the movie is a reaction to what he did in the first film. It's all about escalation. Seeing his Batman match wits with the Joker and finally understanding how he has to deal with these "super criminals" that he inadvertently creates is some damn good stuff. That prewitt building scene near the climax of the film is still the best Batman scene put to film, IMO.

I could see the case for Batman Begins over it tho, because Begins is a hell of a film. But The Dark Knight is just a beast of a film. It's like Empire vs A new Hope or T2 vs T1.

The Dark Knight was better in every aspect from storytelling, to film making technique, to acting, better conceived and executed set pieces.

Although Begins is still the best origin story comic book movie, and a damned fine film in its own right.
