Which hurts more to get hit by. An MMA Glove or a Boxing glove?

Simple question. Just doing a survey here.....

Which hurts more. Pretend you were to hit someone wearing a boxing glove and an MMA glove as hard as you can. Which hit from both gloves will have more an effect?

Say if Mike Tyson wore an MMA gloves instead of boxing gloves. Would that of made his hits feel even harder due to the less padding?

Let me know.... If someone were to hit you and you took their hardest punch from an MMA glove and a boxing glove. Which would hurt the most?

Simple question guys, im asking it in many forms lol.

Which is the better overall glove. MMA glove or boxing? When it comes to having a hitting affect as in say if I were to punch someone in the face while sparring as hard as a I can. Which glove will they get hurt more by etc...

lmk folks iso your input thanks

People can punch harder with boxing gloves, this has been supported by scientific experimentation (according to Kin Professor at SJSU).

Construction wise, I would rather get his by 4oz MMA gloves than 8oz horse hair boxing gloves.

Go to training and find out. You'll get plenty of anecdotal evidence for your survey.

Using physics you could say the heavier gloves moves slower than a light glove and speed is more important than mass in kinetic energy (KE = 1/2 * m * v^2) and the impulse is larger on the big glove as well due to the padding (J = F * time) so the gloves padding slows it down before breaking a bone...like airbags.

However, the extra handwrap you get in a boxing matches can make the puncher more confident allowing for stronger shots.

Definately.

Boxing gloves do more damage, especially cumulative damage.

But MMA gloves feel like they hurt more on the receiving end, and IMO they are more likely to cut you open during training.

IMF is very forgiving, but the boxing glove is more hurtful.

This guy knows what hes talking about.

I was going to type this up but Blair summed it up.

Thing about boxing gloves too they do more brain damage, which ISNT seen.

but if the speed decrease is not significant you still pack more mass (glove weight).

put an MMA glove over the end of a baseball bat, the same with a boxing glove,
which would you rather get hit with? id take the boxing glove with its extra padding

I think if we talk about one shot, I'd prefer the boxing glove. If it were over a long period of time, I would prefer the mma glove. Too much pugilistic Parkinson's. Obviously I would prefer to parry or slip.

Depends on the type of glove you're using. Some of these 8 oz. pro fight gloves have less padding over the knuckle then an MMA glove.

what about surface area? seem like you would have more surface area being hit by a boxing glove which would spread the impact over a greater area.

also, i would say the power punch to ko ration in MMA is much higher than in boxing.

There is not really that much surface area difference between a 4oz MMA fight gloves and a 8oz boxing fight glove (i mean we all impact with the knuckles). The extra weight mostly comes from the finger covering, thumb covering, extended cuff, and palm material.

The only thing that make MMA gloves more dangerous is the possibility for eye pokes and increased broken hands.

As for surface area increasing we would use pressure (i.e., PSI).
Pressure = Force / Area
As area increases the pressure goes down.
Rearrange the formula
Force = Pressure * Area
As area increases, the impulse increases, thereby reducing the blow.
Impulse = Force * Time
Impulse = pressure * area * time

That is a misleading statement to make considering the subject of the discussion.

A more accurate statement would be to say that they do more damage in total, by doing less damage per strike.

If it is even true they do more damage in any way at all. Far more likely the rules of boxing, and boxing training are the reason why there are more long term brain injuries in boxing.
