I may be visiting Vancouver in the near future and I'm wondering what school Stephan Kesting teaches at?

He doesn't teach full time. However, Marcus Soares, who gave Stephan his BB has a school there. THere is also Dynamic and Unviversal which have Soares BBs.

I maybe wrong about Stephan but according to my coach is a friend of his and a fellow soares BB this is the case.

I tried to search around for you and unfortunately, I was not able to find any information on where (if he does?) Stephan Kesting teaches at. However, here are some information regarding the "more popular" bjj/mma schools in BC.

Marcus Soares - Vancouver Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Canada Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, North America Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - direct student of Carlson Gracie Sr.
- school is in New Westminster
- you can watch some clips of his seminar at Dynamic MMA (if you have facebook) here = Dynamic Mixed Martial Arts | Facebook

Adam Ryan - black belt under Marcus Soares - Dynamic Mixed Martial Arts
- the school is very popular these days. School in Vancouver and a new school in Coquitlam. Cheick Kongo trained at his gym a few months ago. - Also trained at Wanderlei's gym this past summer

Shane Rice - Rickson Gracie black belt - Universal Mixed Martial Arts | Vancouver / Richmond
- used to be Dennis Kang's school,

Some other schools are: Gracie Barra (graciebarra.ca) , Creative Fighters Guild (Team Megaton ) (creativefightersguild.com), West Coast BJJ (dela riva) = jiujitsulife.com, 10th planet jiu jitsu vancouver

Universal MMA's BJJ program isn't run by a Soares black belt anymore, it's run by Shane Rice, who is a Rickson Gracie black belt.

It is worth seeking Stephan out for privates and seminars. He gave a leglock seminar at our school that was excellent. Nice guy, too - interesting outlook on BJJ having come from a background in several other TMAs.

Shane Rice is a beast.I'd probably stop by his place if I were there.

^Shane is also an excellent teacher and a stand-up guy. Definitely worth checking out.

Does anybody train at Shane Rice's (universal) place? Does Shane teach the clases? How does a typical class go about?

I have not done classes at universal, but Shane was guest instructor where I train for 7 months.

Typical class went like this: jogging warm up, group stretching, a few sport-specific movements, takedowns (every class, judo-style,) ground techniques, open roll.

Nothing special in the format. What makes it great is the small details - and the occasional Rickson story "Bro, the first time i met him - it was like meeting Darth Vader..."
