First off, Signs is my favorite M. Night movie and it's underrated as hell, imo. It has it's flaws but it's really well done. It's gotta be hard for a director to get that kind of creepy atmosphere and sustain it, and slowly build it throughout the film. But he pulled it off nicely.

I rewatched it with the theory in mind that the aliens are not aliens at all, but rather demons. And it absolutely fits perfectly. So much so that I have to assume M. Night had that in mind when shooting it. It's ambiguous about what they are the entire time. We never see them using technology of any kind. We never see any UFO's (only lights). Holy water burns them. They have fucking claws and gas and no tech of any kind. Mel is a former preacher who has lost his faith. The core of the story is faith. There are religious tones throughout the whole movie. It's demons, clearly.

I just figured they were members of the Fire Nation.

I agree TS, I love the theory and think it fits and ads to an already fantastic flick .

Toss me in the m night shamalamadingdongs haters club

In some ways M. Night Shayamalayadingdong is a good director. He is very good in some aspects. He knows how to add drama to scenes. That is impressive. He can take tedious stuff and build on it and draw you in. Its a skill, absolutely.

But it's an awful movie. Aliens, demons? I don't care. It's poop. The plot is nonsense. The characters? Awful. It's a mess. Night would be most effective if he was given a hard script and told to follow it. He can direct. He should have ZERO control over script. Zero.

The fuck are you on about? How are you gonna say he's a good director then shit on his best work??

I think he likes messing with the audience. Case in point...

In a movie, there are many components that can help make it great or bad. There is the direction, the editing, the acting (which can vary greatly by individual actor) the plot, the dialogue, the special effects, the music score, etc. We sometimes see a movie as one piece, but it is the the compilation of work of hundreds of people and there are many things that can be positives or negatives about a film.

So, what I am saying is that M. Night has some skill as a director. He knows how to frame scenes, very well. He knows how to build tension, to get the audience involved in a scene. He draws people in. That is impressive.

But the plots of his movies suck. And they suck hard. Like really bad. Sixth Sense? Very good. Unbreakable, not bad. Everything else? Complete and utter garbage. The same scripts by less talented directors would be rightly completely trashed.

I think this scene really suggests the demon theory:

I actually like quite a number of films by M. Night that is widely disliked by others. Signs, Devil. Hated The Village like 90% of the people though. But this thread isn't about him.

I believe in Aliens, not Demons. Most people think Greys when Alien is mentioned. I don't. I take them as extraterrestrial lifeform, so basically any lifeform not from Earth. I don't believe they have actively got involved in human life as well.

As for Demons, I don't believe them because I don't believe in Hell, a place they supposedly "stays'. If there is not physical form of a place, Hell/Heaven, I don't believe them, thus any beings that supposedly "stay/live" there.

Signs = boring and dissappointing movie. Demons or Aliens, doesn't matter.

Agent Mulder's Hair is clippy's account for movie based threads.

Demons don't need crop circles for navigation. Demons also shouldn't be hurt by water after dwelling in hell with it's , you know, hellish conditions.

I just want to know why water fucks them up but they can run around naked in our atmosphere just fine.

The alien's/demon weakness was water. Fucking water.

<1>
i read about the aliens = demons thing before and apparently the alien/demon got hurt by the water is because the little girl was blessing the water turning into holy water. or some shit like that lol.
