Honest question not a bash. At one point in time when I started watching the sport Chuck Liddell had the biggest fanbase and was kinda sorta the show pony for the UFC. How is this possible when there is rarely a Chuck thread other than his lifestyle or delusion of still fighting or who he would have beat? Why are there few that still mention him in a tremendous amount of epic moments? Is or was Chuck overrated? What the hell happened to the Chuck Liddell fanbase?

It seems Chucks legacy doesn't warrant that much post-activity/career conversation because he never was at the Top of the sport like GSP or Fedor at his particular time.

When retired fighters are brought up, its mostly GOAT-debates and the like. Chuck has no place in these convos so he's a lot less mentioned.

He's also a lot less visible. Sure he shows up to fights but noone is sincerely interested in hearing from him. One of the reasons why Khabibs comments on the sport are always present, is because he is a lot more present and is given a platform to express his thoughts. He corners fighters, actively trains guys, etc.

Chuck is good for doing his Iceman pose when the cam shows him on the big screens on PPV's nowadays. All the respect in the world to the legend, but he's not adding to the sport of MMA in any active capacity these days.

That is an entirely different discussion that should be made on when retired (washed) legends give absolutely nothing back to the game but a tough guy pose. Geesh

Someone with a fanbase that was that large having very few active fans is amazingly bad lol. No disrespect to the legend but it’s a phenomena of its own

I've seen lots of threads saying like: Chuck Lidell in his prime would pose a big thread to Jon Jones. Great takedown defense, he could keep Jones on his feet and KO him.

Now, those threads have obviously become less frequent by time. Cuz Chuck wasn't really a world beater, he was never - even in his prime - a GOAT candidate.

At this point Tito probably has a larger fanbase lol. I have never seen a more bandwagon fanbase than Chuck’s. He was mma royalty and the most loved when I started watching but he quickly started getting battered at the time. Millions of fans don’t even mention him anymore. To go from the face of the UFC to this point is kinda disturbing lol

I used to love watching Chuck back in the day. "Used to" "back in the day" Chuck is long since retired and irrelevant to today's competition, I saw him fight in 98 or 99 for Christ's sake. I'm 100% sure his fans still appreciate him but what are we supposed to do? Shit post about him and watch young fans say who the fook is that guy and get a couple pages of people shitting on him and his lack of modern day MMA skills? the past is the past

Its the same questions as where did Randy's fans go? Where did Tito's fans go? its more about the era than Chuck in particular. aged and either moved from casual to mid or hardcore fans or moved onto another hobby and maybe catch UFC once in a blue moon at a friend's BBQ where they can talk about how back in their day it was better. they had Chuck and Tito and Randy.

I remember many years ago there was an article about this topic on some major sports news site where they had a drawing of an old dude in Tito flaming shorts and like a Chuck shirt or something, it was funny, I couldn't find it on a quick google though.

Chuck simply hasn’t done anything but pose for pics while other legends gave back in some regards. His fanbase aged the worst I have witnessed with the utmost respect. I understand times change but you have no idea how huge Chuck’s fanbase was from a newbie perspective. I have seen literally every old legend get more praise than Chuck and he was the poster child

Better fighters came along, less talk was done about the previous era. You're exactly right.

The fans who love Chuck and still watch, love whoever is KOing everyone and going for it. People clown on Chuck being old if he ever tries to do combat again, but most respect what he did.

Thing is I can only speak my own experience and Randy absolutely has been talked about for his past or Affliction FAR more than Chuck. Chuck wilted approximately as I was a newbie to the sport and I understand better fighters come along but Chuck appreciation aged like pizza on the counter

Always been a big Chuck fan, but he retired 15 years ago, why the fuck would we log onto Sherdog and talk about him every day?

Sometimes it's best to think about your next post, and then realise it's fucking stupid and not do it.

Unfortunately it looks like we'll never get an old school room on Sherdog, so there really is very little reason to talk about the Gods. Until some fucktard asks a dumb question like this
