Several fighters at the top of the division started training in combat sports late in life. Ngannou started boxing at 22, Gane started Muay Thai at ~25, and Lewis didn’t start training until later in life too.

I would expect lifetime wrestlers, strikers, or bjj practitioners to fill out the top of the division but that is not the case. DC beat Lewis and made it look easy.

The top 10 in every other weight class is filled with athletes who have competed in combat sports since early childhood. Why is heavyweight different? Is it because they have so much power that every fight is essentially a coin flip so talent doesn’t rise to the top?

Guys that size are making way more money in sports that don't need them to risk CTE and hand fractures

but the NCAA still has elite wrestlers that should be able to beat untrained brutes. Cain was an example before he got injured. Cole Conrad is another but he left to sport for a job in finance

Like what?

Powerlifting? Neck injuries and back injuries (also have to take PED´s to be top level and heal)

Strongmen? Neck injuries and back injuries (also have to take PED´s to be top level and heal)

Rugby = CTE, cuts and broken bones. Bad cuts happen due to no pads

American football = CTE if a defensive or offensive line player or a hittable reciever. Also an eventual blown knee, back injuries are also common for players who take hits. Only safe positions are kicker, QB in theory, and some special teams runners, punter, and place holder,

HW Boxing= EVEN MORE CTE than MMA

HW Kickboxing= MORE CTE than MMA but less than Boxing (due to more Tko finishes to the body or legs, or leg injuries)

Since when is strongmen considered a sport? And powerlifting?

Name a sport the involves heavyweight sized guys that doesn't involve crashing into each other in one form or another sir?.

Especially one that makes a lot of money.

NFL and basketball mostly, making real money.

Gane, Ngannou, Lewis and Stipe are all hella good though.

Aspinall seems like he has potential.

Athletic, coordinated, in shape athletes that walk around at 230lb+ pounds are just extremely rare. For the ones that do exist, and if they're born in North America, they're primarily playing football and/or basketball. The talent pool at HW will just never be as deep as the lighter divisions, especially with all of the extreme weight cutting going on today.

Basketball

Elite high level swimmers are all super tall as are rowers but most are more LHW weight range. Sub 235lbs

Exactly, we're all blind to reality because all us sherddoggers are natural heavyweights but more than half of the real world are manlets

Cyril Gane and Ngannou are proof of huge muscular men who have incredible athletic abilities in MMA. I think this is just the beginning of more of these guys to come.

The amazing thing is Francis might leave MMA before Fedor does.

<36>
Yeah, Fedor needs to rematch Bader at least, before he retires getting knocked down & legs flying up like a cartoon, FOOK!
