Aren't they top 3 in terms of producing high class wrestlers? Why hasn't this translated into MMA?

That's cause MMA is illegal in Iran. Even Amir Aliakbari - a heavyweight prospect - is training in AKA thailand and fighting in Russia and Japan.

CHael did a whole thing on this, I tried to find it but couldnt.. Basically was saying American style of wrestling was better for MMA... Also read someplace about him saying in wrestling u can win without scoring takedowns so it doesnt always translate to MMA

Interesting. That explains it. It's probably not easy to get a passport to leave either like Amir did.

<31>ufc doesn't allow "people" on the fbi watch list to compete.

I'm sure if someone like conor came along tho theyd make an exception

I wondered whatever happened to Kamal Shalarous.

There will certainly be more in the UFC. Some very crafty, explosive wrestlers come from that region.

Remember that Iranian wrestler Brian Johnston absolutely fucking wrecked in the early days? That was awesome. The most damage Johnston took in that fight was when Big John broke his nose while rescuing the Iranian from that thrashing.

That's an interesting point as well.

Mousassi is of Iranian hertiage.
