I love boxing. But what is the recommended cut off age for sparring in the boxing ring to prevent long term brain related damage, dementia, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), etc? Even for just recreational at a local gym. We now know that the brain’s ability to recover from trauma decreases as we age. 40? 50? 60?

You’ve got Andrew Tate as your av, I’d be careful taking anymore brain damage.

Realistically, just watch the power and wear your head gear. We all gotta pay to play, if you want to spar then be prepared for it to affect your brain health.

Don't be a hater bro. Tate is a gentleman and a scholar and right 99% of the time. That being said, I will take your advice. I will tell them to go "light". If it escalates I'll just leave the ring at risk of looking like a panzy weakling but won't drink from a straw in a wheelchair at 60.

Thanks for saving me from brain trauma in the ring by suggesting only light sparring. But I will get brain trauma chatting on and on about your fake news and liberal tears in the war room.

You're definitely jelous of Andrew

40 was when I quit hard sparring. You just don't heal quickly enough and I don't want anymore head trauma. I also just had my septum fixed for the 2nd time and can breathe well for the first time in a decade. I still move around a bit and do bjj.

I felt a drop off in reflexes around 27. And now at 35 It's really not a good idea even if I have old man strength and wisdom

It's all about how hard the sparring is and also the frequency. If you're not competing there isn't too much point hard sparring past age 40. Just do light sparring instead or only do hard sparring very occasionally.

But if you're really scared for your brain, why even do boxing in the first place 🤔

Nah. You need a very good bullshit filter to extract the good things he have to stay. 12% or so.

And even if his training and man up attitude is solid, you can get that advice other places.

Where you dont have to swim through endless money and female bragging nonsense.

Slowdown at 27? Wow, aren't athletes in their prime at 32?

27 was when I lost aboit 20% of my reaction time but my strength increased so much that all my training partners thought I was taking PEDs.

Fighting wise I was best between 27 and 36. After that it's all about mitigating aging and maintaining what I have. I'll be 42 in April and still have a 8 pack, hit 50ft kickers on my snowboard, lift and train bjj a couple of times a week.

Sparring is a hard no though.

Head gear doesn't prevent brain trauma, unfortunately. It's for preventing cuts. I don't wear it because it limits my peripheral vision. If anything, it makes you take more shots to the head.

As an older martial artist myself, I still spar. I keep it to once a week and mostly light sparring. If I catch one that makes the room tilt, I don't spar again for a couple of weeks.
