... that ISN’T a spin to the back, Guillotine variation, Anaconda, or Darce?

I mean that list takes out about 90% of my offense from there so I’m left with a Peruvian neck tie I guess. I’ve hit it like once or twice before.

In the gi it's Robson's Loop Choke variation done from there. Can't find a video but its this one starting from the front headlock position.

Judo has a host of options by the way which aren't spin to the back and try throw in hooks for when you're attacking Turtle from the front.

My favourite is a variation of this that i couldn't find a free video of since i prefer Mount to the back as my broken knees don't like spinning to throw hooks in ;-)

here is the specific version i mean in a competition setting

You've obviously lots of reverse triangle and armbar stuff you don't see a lot in BJJ too, there's mountains of videos out there but these are a few ideas from the front rather than spinning behind them.

About 80% of the time I'll go from a front-headlock and switch the chin-strap to his arm, then circle for an ankle pick or a knee-tap to break him down. Then I go for the quarter nelson choke (darce) and if that fails I'll typically fall back for an arm-in guillotine. If he has a good hold on my leg or waist preventing me from circling for the ankle, I'll more often hit a nelson to turn him over, and try to finish the same way. I've had great success with this formula against almost everyone so far.

Lately I've been playing with the front-headlock choke (Hughes-Headlock) but I find it hard to chop the arm across from the ground. It works well from standing, but once your opponent has a lot of weight on his elbows it's hard to force the arm across to lock in the choke.

Some guy came to an open mat and got me with a go behind where he trapped my arm (which wasn't extended) in a crucifix. Several times. It was really cool

Tawara Gaeshi variations.

Essentially, throwing from front headlock or double overhooks. Usually as a counter to double unders / body lock / double leg attempt.

You can hold the lock up and roll all the way to mount if you hit it clean, often at least to side control on a game opponent.

This is a really interesting takedown option. Cat Zingano used it to great effect against Amanda Nunes.

Shintaro Higashi has a really good take on it:

I'm pretty sure Shintaro also got DQ'ed in a judo match using this.
