Quartz 100%.
Little more expensive, but almost zero maintenance.

but if I had to choose it again I'd go for wood, and I wouldn't be shy about beating the hell out of it.. the more character the better.

A timeless white base of the purest hue, touched by the movement of soft shadows in an interplay of darkness and light.Going to be redoing the main kitchen in this so everything in the house matches:

It looks much better in real life and contrasts well with the dark grey cupboards/bench.

I just bought a house with everything like your second picture. Massive island and I couldn't be more happy with it because it's cold. We make a lot of pasta and bread so dough wise it being cold is perfect.![]()

is granite cheap?
Ladder your tights on that.If i were to make something for myself i'd probably go some concrete/epoxy wood hybrid..

If commercial probably some reasonable hardwood or stone.. possible to replace/polish.. all surfaces take wear and tear..
Does cleaning it with bleach help?Granite sucks because it's easy to finish incorrectly and then becomes really hard to keep clean, bacteria builds up in the tiny little crevices and the kitchen smells like wet dog all the time.
