Enormously explosive fighter with some great wins over former champions and number one contenders.

After his Justin Gaethji fight, the wheels seem to have fallen off the bus and he just can't string any wins together.

He's not even that old - Khabib's father said that MJ was the most dangerous fight Khabib had ever had (this was said pre Poirer).

Does he need a change of scenery, mental training, or did his prime pass him by? Such a frustrating guy that is fun to watch (horrible shit talker though).

Great fighter just not championship quality, the LW and FW divisions are nuts.

He is a journeyman, nothing wrong with it, but he'll never get close to a title shot. There is levels to this, just like boxing.. mostly everyone in the UFC is elite already. Some guys stay at one level, some guys get past it and become champions. Most don't.

Gaethji fight mentally destroy him. He was never the same after that.

He's physically gifted but mentally weak. That's the impression I get, anyway.
He has some incredible wins, but a lot of bad losses.

He used to be good. Always had glaring holes in his game.
Sadly he's getting older now for the lower weight classes and has years of damage on his body. He's been in wars and has taken major damage.
His speed and explosiveness are now gone(his best weapons).

Also he definitely over trained or had constant wars with Kamaru Usman in sparring. This probably took years off his career.

His speed was insane and explosiveness, really insane how far it got him.

He derailed a streaking Dustin on a 4 fight win streak(Diego Ferreira KO 1, Yancy Medeiros TKO 1, Joe Duffy DEC and Bobby Green KO 1). He's the only other person to beat Dustin at 155 besides Khabib.

I saw his last fight and it's completely gone now, jumping down to 145 was probably the nail in the coffin for his body.

The general impression is that he's weak but im not so sure about that. He took a helluva beating vs Khabib. Weak fighters would've folded in the first.

It's probably a USADA issue along with him just being worn down from all the gym wars.

Mentally weak fighters gives up at the first sign of adversity. Not sure if that applies to MJ.

He fights to the level of his competition, he can have huge moments against Gaethje and Poirier, but then lose a winnable decision because he isn't being pressured and forced to throw back.

The Emmett fight was the final nail in the coffin tho, having to beat Emmett while cutting that kind of weight? Emmett is one of the most underrated fighters in the UFC, and if he was a few years younger a future champ imo.

Johnson is almost 40 fights into his career in his mid 30's, it's basically over for anyone at that point.
