Why dont they just legalize it already? The states can make it illegal if they want but a federal law seems ridiculous. Who is opposed to this? I do not smoke and am totally uninformed on this issue.

I blame the muslims

That's all I got, it's Friday and I'm on the green line in the Cannabis Car to Chill Central!

I don't believe it will be federally legal (decriminalized) within the next ten years, but I'd imagine more states will make this move.

Also, to the TS, if you have not smoked before, watch Data hit the bong from the first link while playing this on YouTube:

as loud as is necessary to only minimally offend those in close proximity. Watch Data the whole time, and relax into the flow of scene changes.

Actually, you could probably just watch Bill Bruford's stick technique and Robert Fripp's subtle plectrum articulation.

I dunno, have fun!

I typically favor more paternalistic approaches. We already have the tobacco industry. Their troubling marketing practices are well-known. No one here would probably argue that tobacco is anything more than a poison to our society. Do we want to create another such industry to push marijuana?

We already have a marijuana industry though. Would it really get that much bigger if we legalized it? No one I know wants to smoke pot but doesnt because its illegal

One thing I don't like is raging alco's acting morally superior to people who smoke marijuana. You see all sorts of obese mothers who hit the bottle every weekend, celebrating weed dealers getting busted, like these young men selling weed are 'killing' the youth of tomorrow. For me, Alcohol is one of the biggest poisons and societal ills about...I say this as a moderate drinker. I will always support the right for people to enjoy drugs, so long as they don't over do it, or alternatively if the drug is extremely destructive.

I imagine Tobacco & Alcohol companies play some part in keeping Marijuana from being readily available over the counter in major super markets. It's competition.

I'm curious about this too. I'm 100% for its legalization, but I'm not going to suddenly start smoking because it's legalized.

Sessions needs to toke out. I guess if he eradicates mary j wawna from existence he can go back to liking the kkk

The Attorney General and Congress both have the power to change drug scheduling laws

Old fart white men once again fucking over the younger generations with their ignorance.

Same thing with the net neutrality internet debacle. Old white men who are fucking over the younger generations cause they're ignorant

I honestly have no idea. Considering what is legal, it's baffling to say the least.

At the very least, you'd think they'd want to make money off this relatively harmless drug.

Poison? Tobacco causes cancer and kills. Marijuana treats cancer and definitely does not kill.

thats the thing theres a tipping point

theres definitely money to be made by the right people by it staying illegal

but theres definitely alot of money to be made by a different group of people if its legal

the thing is there is not alot of overlap so those in charge of status quo would prefer it stay that way

when the people that effect policy (lobbyists, legislatures) feel that the winning horse is legalization you will see a pretty quick transition IMO

If the Trump administration legalizes marijuana, the modern left will essentially disapear.

seriously this person is saying the downside of a regulated vice outweighs the the downside of a blackmarket?? are you kidding me?

we have substantial evidence that prohibition does not lead to a better situation
regulation of vices is the only way to lessen the overall negative impact

Why should someone like me in California tell someone in a different state which vices should or shouldn't be legal in that state?

When it comes to these gray area vices I'm all for states rights. It's pretty obvious which way the wind is blowing. States are more tumbleweed than bowling pin, lately.

It will be legal soon because of the money it generates and the general public's attitudes warming to it. I would be surprised if it were not legal on the federal level within five years. It will take longer to legalize on the state level in the very conservative gulf south area, but they too will come around because of the money.

It'll take all the geriatric conservatives dying off in order for it to become legal. That's literally the only demographic that has a majority that favors keeping marijuana illegal
