Call a super fight or a unusually big fight. What was the first MMA fight you remember felt like a special fight to you?

For me it was probably Chuck Liddell vs Tito Ortiz. The first fight. Because the long build up. And the history between then.

The next one was Chuck Liddell vs Randy Couture 2. The two coaches from TUF season 1. Finally gonna do the rematch for the title.

Also kinda from the same era: Crocop vs Fedor.

Edit: fuck i'm a dumbass, read it as last not first.

First would be Ken/Tito 1 maybe. Obviously Ken was basically done by then but he was still one of the biggest names in the sport partly off the back of his pro wrestling run, and Tito was one of the most the recognisable guys in the sport at the time too.

Tito vs Ken 1 UFC 40

That fight had everything you wanted in terms of rivalry, star power and on that huge WWE style stage. As well as being an awesome fight…. Or one sided beating

That's the first one I ordered myself live. (Literally saved for months to get the money, I was 13)

It was the first time I heard anything MMA related on radio adverts and the like.

UFC 100 for me. Not only was the first live MMA event I'd ever watched, it happened to be the rematch of Mir/Brock 1 which was, by sheer chance, the first instance I'd seen of real life MMA (my naive brain was like oooooh this is that thing I saw in that episode of Friends that one time!)

Khabib vs Connor,

Adversary against Adversary,
Enemy against Enemy,
Tiger against Lion,
Batman against the Jocker,

Anger, Hatred, Animosity, Wrath, Revenge,

The build-up leading to that fight was special, the press conference, the bus accident, the beef, the call-outs, you don't see that often, they had a score to settle, after the fight, Khabib jumping to attack Connor's corner.

A Rocky movie would not have done better.

I was 18 a K1 fan. A older friend texted me that he has a fight tomorrow, vs Fedor. So I found out Mirko vs Fedor is fighting. I got so freaking nervous, watch it, go away, be nervous, watch it. Than found Sherdog. Mirko Filipović vs Fedor felt big. I used to get massive butterflys for all Mirko fights. They were always live on Croatian TV, mostly middle of the night.

Clarification Mirko isn't my friend but my friend rolleplayed as Mirko and said tommorrow I'm fighting Fedor. I didn't know who they were.

At school our english teacher also asked who watched the fights. We watched Mirko as school kids smash peoples foreheads in.

President supports Mirko and Stipe. There is no this should be on TV.

Stipe and his wife got their citize ship the other day.

🇭🇷❤️

If you are being honest boxing is not safer and never was. Every country accept boxing.

Edit : why do I randomly start talking about Croatia lol can't help myself. I mean I watched Mirko 🇭🇷 he represented me. Like a soccer team or your NFL NBA team. Maybe Frode was a big Aleksander Gustafsson supporter.

GOAT MMA fight, imo.

edit: I was a student at the time and worked in a bar. EVERYBODY was talking about that fight. E.V.E.R.Y.B.O.D.Y.

Now people barely know that MMA even exists, maybe they know a little about a certain "crazy Irish guy" and that's pretty much it. MMA was really mainstream at the time...good times.

People were talking about fedor vs crocop ? Seriously ? Dont get me wrong, i still think its the biggest one with khabib vs conor but it was huge in the mma and lets say the martial arts world in general, but outside of those nobody knew who those guys were. And its totally logical, how tf a 2005 fight with 0 tv coverage, 0 mainstream media coverage can be at the center of everything ??? No way.

Yes, seriously.

It was on TV in Europe in many Countries.

I'll be honest I watched the very early UFC events and than I got disinterested for a while there in the mid to late 90s. But this fight in particular seem super epic to me at the time. Just Kimo looks like a fighter you expect in films and he lost to a guy that looks like a Ralph Macchio.
