So last weekend I went to GLORY 85 together with @TacticalTijs
The fights were great and full of action, we truly had a blast, but the heavyweight-tournament semi finals in Tariq Osaro vs Jahfarr Wilnis gave me freaking flashbacks to Ivan Drago vs Apollo Creed.
I sat close to the ring and really couldn’t believe my eyes and thought the poor Wilnis was going to fucking die in that ring, waiting for the ref to stop the fight but it just didn’t happen.
Personally I thought the stoppage was very late.
So that made me wonder, what do you guys think of this stoppage (this is the final sequence on top of a battering second round)? Do you agree with the referee, or should this fight have been stopped way before?
It’s worth to note that GLORY doesn’t have standing 8-counts.
Imo, if they did use standing 8-counts, I think the referee would’ve intervened way before, because giving someone an 8-count has less impact on the outcome of a fight than counting someone out.
This one was pretty bad too imo (swipe for the ultimate stoppage):
