I see this term used often on here.

I don’t get it.

For example, if someone lands 300 “significant strikes” in a fight that goes to the judges, were any of those strikes really that significant?

I decided that significant strikes should mean something else as we move forward. Here are a few examples of significant strikes.

What you're saying is, if it goes to a decision, strikes no longer factor into the decision since they didn't end the fight?

{<huh}

It's hard to quantify power. Insignificant strikes: Jabs, leg kicks that slap, foot stomps, etc. Kick to the groin, now that's a significant strike

Impact sensors in the gloves determine how hard they hit. Significant strikes register above a predetermined thresh hold. ;)

It is whatever judges and fans want it to be.
Lawler won against Condit, Silva won against Brunson, Cruz won against TJ, GSP won against Hendricks... it is too ambivalent and prob UFC wants it to keep it that way to ensure more dodgy split decisions. We have guys like Whittaker coming out with their "I hit him more" explanations, and in his case even so far as to suggest he won the 3rd round against Yoel in their second fight.

Solution: kill or be killed, or be marketable.

Significant strikes in most fights will be 0 or 1 with your stupid judging.
When Roy got worked by stipe, yeah the punches may not have ko'd him but they left a significant impact on his brain in the form of CTE.

No. You need a little work on your reading comprehension, eh?

I am talking about a specific term.
Pleaae discuss that.
If you would like to discuss something else, feel free to make a new thread.

Significant strikes in MMA dont mean shit.

It just means a strike landed...even then, I think they count strikes that miss.

Anything above a "poke"? Basically, it's anything which lands flush/clean, regardless of whether or not the strike does any damage. This is muddled during grappling. Remember when Condit beat Nick Diaz? He landed "significant" strikes - aka, they landed. But when Brock was putting rabbit-punch GNP on herring, mir, and randy, you can't really call those significant, even if they land and deal damage - a few of them here/there might be significant, but the barrage itself isn't.

It's a term Fight Metric uses to rule out insignificant strikes like short arm punches on the ground and in the clinch. All distance strikes are significant strikes. And big shots on the ground and in the clinch are significant strikes. This term was never meant to mean shots that rock or drop or finish an opponent.

That's just FightMetric's use of the word. As with any other word, use it however you want in general conversation.

You think a significant strike should be a knock out hit. What's the point in even recording them if it just signifies a knock out victory?

We are on topic, don't question my reading comprehension, probably question the significant point of your post.

I believe in mma any punch that is not a jab is considered a significant strike
