So recently I made a thread about how I felt a thick skull effected knockout resistance got some feedback and here's my new opinion on each thing that can effect K.O resistance. Now keep in mind I am not saying that because you have these features you can't get knocked out nor am I saying that because you don't have these features you won't be able to take a punch.

1.Protruding chin(Chin that sticks out more than your lips),wide chin,or big chin(K.O resistance) Now I am not exactly sure why but If you look at a lot of guys who don't normally get knocked out they have at least one of these features Carlos Condit,Roy Nelson,Chris Lytle,Nick Diaz,Minotauro Noguiera.

2.Thick skull,Thick area around temporalis(K.O Res) Most guys don't get tested for this but there are some, Julio Cesar Chavez(Abnormally thick skull),Marvin Hagler(Thick layer around temple that apparently acted like a football helmet),and Kazuyuki Fujita who had a thick skull. How this effects being knocked out imagine putting on a motorcycle helmet and getting punched in the head chances are it won't hurt that much and if your skull is thick it would probably have the same effect now you can't exactly tell if you have a thick skull by looking at it so a lot of fighters may have one without knowing.

3.Big jaw,Square Jaw(K.O Res) Once again not positive why but look at guys like Shogun Rua,Rampage Jackson,Anderson Silva,George Chuvalo,Mark Hunt all big jaws with iron chins.

4.Big neck, strong neck, short neck(K.O Res) Dan Henderson,Minotauro Noguiera,Roy Nelson,Brock Lesnar....looking at all these guys what's something they have in common, BIG NECKS and probably strong necks a strong or big neck basically protects your head from flopping all over the place keep in mind having a strong neck doesn't necessarily mean you have a big neck.

Other things:
5.Big Head,Square Head(K.O Restistance)Ex. Chris Leben
6.High Endurance(K.O Res or Chin) this effects recovery which seems to help out with something Ex.Nick Diaz,Benson Henderson,Dan Henderson,Frankie Edgar.
7.Mentality(Chin) some guys can stub their toe and shrug it off some wince in pain you can either take it or you can't.

Guy who are susceptible to getting knocked out(Doesn't mean you will)
Skinny heads, Receding chins, Skinny necks, Small heads, Weak jawline
Fighters with atleast one of these features who can take a punch
Fedor Emelianenko(Small Head)
Muhammad Ali(Small Head,Mild Receding Chin)
Rocky Marciano(Skinny Head,Skinny Jaw)

What in your opinion effects K.O resistance and tell me some guys with K.O resistant features who get knocked out and guys without these features who can take a lot of shots.

That is broscience to the max, TS.

One factor that I think does affect things is the amount of CSF one has in the subarachnoid space and ventricular system in their brain and spinal cord. This fluid acts like a cushion of sorts for your brain. I'd imagine it plays a large role in softening the brain's impact against the hard skull when you take a shot. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to measure and varies from person to person. There are of course factors that lead to the overproduction and underproduction of CSF beyond normal limits, but those typically manifest in adverse ways.

Of course factors like jaw size, neck muscle strength and integrity of the skull (are there any defects resulting in less bone density, for example) play roles too, just not as big in my opinion.

I've noticed that fighters with flat faces seems to have better chins than fighters with angular faces.

Of the things you mentioned, the thing that seemed most prevalent in my experience is neck strength. Other than that it's all about seeing a punch coming (so your neck can would be flexed) as well as technique (tucking chin, making punches not land quite square, etc.).

I'd bet that if Big Country or Hendo or whoever else with an iron jaw stuck their chin up in the air completely relaxed and let a flyweight take a swing at them (like a douchey frat boy late night too drunk to date-rape type of activity) that they'd get knocked out with one shot. Doesn't matter how big your head is if you're relaxed and get hit on the button. You're going down.

The guys with great resistance to KO.
1. Great cervical posture
2. Thick, square Jaw and thick dense Cranial bone structure.
3. Thick neck, but also a square jaw structure where the body of the mandible is longer than average. A thicker neck will close off an airway more but guys with forward developed and long square mandibular jaws will make up airway space. Larger airways are important because these guys will be able to keep their head in line above their shoulders. It potentially gives them more ideal posture to be able to take a shot. Guys with little airways tend to have head forward posture and they tend to get concussions easily.
4. A really good mouthguard helps also. The Maher Mouthguard for fighters which the New England Patriots dentist developed. By the way, the Pats have the least amount of concussions in the NFL every year.
5. Nose breathing helps
Guys with skinny necks, thin bone structure, forward head posture, high angle (instead of square angle) at jawline, short jawline, and who mouthbreathe are KO's waiting to happen.

TS, don't look at the lips in relation to the chin. Rampage has lips that are more forward in relation to his chin, and he doesn't get Ko'd easily. But he still has a long mandible or jawline. That's what you look at to determine horizontal growth of the mandible (which is a factor IMO for a good chin in fighting).

Fighters who wear blue colored shorts are more apt to be KOed. Stick with red trunks.

Titos got a big dome and I've never seen him laid out. See a fight get stopped because he went down but never ktfo

Rolling with punches, and tucking your chin are two things most MMA fighters either don't or can't do.

That is the biggest factor in th amount of ko's IMO.
