If he's so comfortable with fighting lower/no ranked guys for money, then why even come to the UFC? Why not try to go to Bellator instead? They'll be happy to let you fight cans and pay you damn good too. Hell MVP made a career out of it. If he beats Paiva, do you think he's gonna try to step it up?

Fighting lower skilled opponents also lowers the chance of taking damage. Less long term health problems and quicker turn around till the next fight. Fight out his contract, then get a better one later on. It's smart of him.

Do you think the UFC will keep letting him do it?

He wanted to fight the top fighters originally until the Vera fight happened. Then the Kris fight happened, Kris was set up as an easy finish for him during a big PPV card. Ended up being a hard fight for him and exposed O'Malley doesn't respond well to pressure even if they aren't throwing any strikes at him. It's a hole in his game that the Kris fight was able to highlight, there are signs of it from his previous fights but not many was able to spot that weakness in his style. So now he and his team is slowing things down since they realize he wasn't ready for the top fighters yet. I'm sure he'll eventually try if he keeps winning. I think his confidence just went down after those 2 fights.

Yes because he pulls viewers. Also hes not against fighting tough fighters. He just wants better pay. Hes already called out Yanez and Font for his next fight. Thats not easy competition.

It's easy to ask for tough fights if asking for too much money tho. I hope he's serious, I enjoy watching his fights.

Things got a bit real when he fought Vera who was his last step up and he got destroyed in 5 secs from the ground and put out. He fought for an ammy title back in the day and quit from the softest back of the head shot in history. It was better than Aljo acting at least Aljo actually took a big shot.

shot is at 30 secs.

About 1:23 shows him being carried out by two coaches...

He walked away from the Moutinho fight with more damage than Moutinho and lets not forget he popped for Peds. He has been in the UFC since 2016. Fight ranked guys or leave at this point.

Idk if I fully agree with that. I think he handled Kris pretty easily. But I do agree with the Vera fight lowering his confidence.

This has been going on for many decades in boxing.
Fight a bunch of bums and ease your way up the rankings.
UFC doesn't use that model, that's why he was fast tracked at first, just didn't work out well when he fought Vera. So now they are slowing things down. The goal is still to try and get him to a title shot and become champion. But that's on O'Malley if he is going to be able to pull that off. Garbrandth was also fast tracked early in his career. He got to the title shot quickly because he was able to win the fights after the step up in competition, O'Malley wasn't able to do the same.

Wow, I've never seen that before.

It blows my mind how many people here don't realize this.

We know from the class action that the UFC has been paying out a total of 18% of revenue on average to fighters - and that accounts for every single penny spent on purses, bonuses, travel, insurance and even the performance institute. They are getting pennies on the dollar in exchange for brain damage.

The UFC will wring O'Malley out like a used towel and toss him in the bin when they are done with him, just like they do with everyone else.

Fighters should only have one goal - make the most money possible with the least risk to their health. Their bosses have setup a lopsided system where fighters have no advocacy and they are keeping virtually all the money generated by the fighters.

Sean is smarter than he looks. All fighters should be aggressively advocating for better pay, the UFC is openly working against you from getting more of the money you generate. Fair play.

I cant hate on him in that regard.

It looks like he has his own home in AZ and drives around a Tesla. Doing better than a lot of college grads looks like.

Some guys get ran through the ringer in terms of matchmaking and wash-out quick.

I think the single best thing any career fighter should do is buy and pay-off a home with his/her purse money.

Yeah he landed but he couldn't really drop or finish him. The ref gifted him a TKO, that wasn't a TKO. O'Malley was running back and stumbling all over the place just trying to avoid Kris's pressure, just pressure alone and no strikes. Imagine a power striker in Kris's place instead actually throwing power shots. It wouldn't end well for O'Malley. Kris wasn't even a UFC fighter. He was brought on specifically to try and make O'Malley look good for that specific fight.
