What happened to Jimmy Thunder?

Good question. I remember old James Thunder from Down Under on USA Tuesday Night Fights with Sean O'Grady. From what I remember, he was never able to break into the upper echelons of boxing, but was decent journeyman boxer.
 
faded away, lost to less than stellar fighters toward the end and retired.
 
Should've been the quickest KO of all time, if the ref hadn't bothered to count him out.
 
I remember Chris Byrd knocking him out when he was coming up on usa fights. It was a really sweet looking ko imo. Jimmy Thunder always came to fight though. I enjoyed watching him for that reason.
 
I remember him sweeping through the Heavyweight tournament of the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in 1990 to win the Gold medal.

He was a huge star in New Zealand after that. David Tua kinda stole his limelight after Tua took bronze at the Olympics 2 years later though.
 
Just found out that he died a couple of months ago after surgery for a brain tumor.





I'll never forget watching the Grimsley KO with my dad back in the day.

Sad, he looks a lot better than I remember in the clips.
