I saw this in the theater.. Lots of problems with this movie. The main one is that we are following a detective story with NO content, it's just investigation. The second problem is that everything is explained the last 15 minutes, it's too much, and too late.

The third problem is that the movie was marketed as a Nicholas Cage project but his character isn't even required to be in the film, he is never front and center of the attention. Hes barely in the movie. Could have made the same movie with him just mentioned (believe it or not).

Other criticisms that I agree with is that it was low on chock value. It was never truly terrifying despite setting out to be so.

+ Very atmospheric (which isn't an easy thing to accomplish)
+ Good directing in general
+ The principled actors are strong
+ The climax is kinda funny

What say you guys?

I was so looking forward to it. We laughed at what rubbish it was at the end.

In terms of movies last year it rates up with A Different Man being I was so looking forward to that too. The Syndey Sweeney nun movie I was excited about too being she's awesome but that was underwhelming too.

I've been loving long legs on a woman since puberty, and the hasn't changed in 2024

It was OK but it seemed lower budget than it even was. What the fuck was the set design for the FBI building interiors? Also this is the second or third movie by this director that ends with a character staring into the camera and saying 'hail satan' which is pretty fucking lazy and honestly just doesn't carry the same kind of punch it did years ago.

Maika Monroe was great as always. If you like her check out Watcher.

Yes Maika nailed it and the black guy was great too.

Solid. Well crafted and technically very proficient. Good use of Cages mania. Good atmosphere. But ultimately sort of style over substance. Nothing wrong with that.

I thought it was alright but to be honest, as a massive Nicholas Cage fan it didn't nearly live up to the hype online with people claiming it to be some masterpiece or something.

That part is lazy but the end episode in the house with the colleague is kinda brilliant.

Very good atmosphere and sound design, but the story was lacking a bit. I noticed when Oz Perkins was doing an interview that he said the satanic stuff was all flavor as if it was all very surface level stuff that he had no real interest in otherwise (even though several of his movies use it). The best movies that use the occult aren't just using it as flavoring, it's a deeper engrained part of the story and you can tell the writers care (The Exorcist, The Omen, Rosemary's Baby, Prince of Darkness, The Last Exorcism, etc.), so you're never going to get to that next level as a film if the writing doesn't reflect that.

I never felt the investigation was enganging. It was like watching a boring CSI episode.

Disliked it the first watch. Appreciated it the second watch.

No one was expecting the super natural element and it ruined the first watch (expecting more realism / silence of the lambs) but once you accept it...its really good and everyone is great in it..

The mood created was fantastic. So was the makeup job for Cage, and his acting inside of it.

Other than that, it was kind of a mess that didn't really feel like it had anything to say. As unnerving as the mood of the world was, it failed to unsettle me with the narrative, because there was nothing about the idea of the Satanists or why they endured as a threat beneath the surface of society that resonated with me. Contrast this with the film Martyrs where the religious cult that ran the torture chambers was terrifyingly intriguing. You felt an element of credibility to their subculture, and its shocking contradictions. That is what lingers with you, and haunts you.

The vibe was really good and the film was okay but as many others have said, the first 2/3 of the film were solid but it fell off a cliff in the final third once the paranormal stuff took front and centre. A lot of it didn't make sense. Cage overdid it by this stage as well.

But ultimately, if someone gets away with this for 20-30yrs, they blend in. They do NOT look and act like Longlegs and avoid detection! I just couldn't swallow that.

It was ok. I thought the payoff wasn't worth sitting through the whole thing though and was kinda weak. Maybe if it came out in the 80's during the whole satanic panic thing, it would've had more of an eerie feel but just seems out of place for today and goofy almost.

It was alright but like others said the atmosphere was better than the story.

I enjoyed it for the most part, early on it nailed the uneasy feeling. Always felt like someone or something was lurking even during basic scenes, the sound design was also nice and added to the overall feel. The way it was filmed had a dark dirty vibe at times which I would have preferred as the overall tone throughout.

Like others it started to lose me towards the end where it leaned into wacky territory. Showing Nic Cage running around town looking super suspicious and odd was something they really should have cut imo.
