If someone is going to beat Top around this weight class-Volk has the skills to do so just has to not get caught.
Likely never be against the fence, way less exchanging against Topuria, and a lot more clinching and maybe even takedowns.

Do you guys think he could pull it off or is this a lost cause that has already happened and there’s nothing he can do to avoid the KO?

Also what did Topuria do that other featherweights haven’t been able to?

Volkanovski wasn’t having success with his stick and move game plan, if he were to rematch he needs to incorporate takedowns.

Topuria just has the KO power, better boxing and how he covers distances is the problem that Volkanovski ran into, same as Holloway.

I haven't watched it in a while, but I thought he was? He just fucked up and got backed into the fence. I could see someone like Volk making the adjustments needed, but he's not getting any faster, and Topuria only needs to crack him once.

He did have success early but yeah got backed up and Ilia cut him off and that's all she wrote.

Volk's only hope for success is a wrestling heavy approach, he could stick and move again but Top will find the chin through 25 mins one would think, just try to grapple fuck him over and over but who knows if it would work.

As much as I would like Volk to wrestlefuck Apturo for 25 minutes, I think Topturo showed great wrestling skills in his fights, so I don't imagine Volk being able to do it.
He might be able to do it if he plays it super extra safe and just out scores him over 5 rounds moving around as a single punch would be enough to crack Volk battle worn chin.

he'd have to go with an insane divorce ex wife psychological approach, that raises awareness to topurias lack of foresight + heavy wrestling game plan.

get him thinking about the divorce and alimony, every time he sets up a takedown.

talk about lawyer fees and stress, then the ol' double leg.

we know topuria can't handle the words too well. itd be in his head too much.

Volk is a point fighter. He can be ahead on the scorecards and will eventually get caught by Topuria. Just an awful matchup for Volk.

Volk is probably my favorite fighter. I like how he goes about his business. He is very technical, has great heart, and very high fight IQ. I was impressed with his first fight against Islam even though he didn't win. The second fight was obviously not very good for Volk. I think Volks biggest issue is he lacks some power. I think he could win a fight against Topuria, but it would have to be a very boring fight. He would have to stick and move w/o getting caught or lay and pray. Topuria won't run out of gas like Islam.

It’s just a terrible style match up for Volk, he’s inferior to Topuria at nearly every aspect of the game.

Topuria is faster, hits much harder, better offensive grappling, comparable strengths of counter grappling and Fight IQ… he’s the superior athlete overall.

What makes this challenging for Volks counter heavy style is Topurias patience and uncanny ability to generate big power in tight spaces. He can get from point A to point B much faster than Volk with the right reads which is what he did in their first fight: punched where he expected Volk to be exiting the pocket and blitzed him unconscious.

Volk himself knows he’s outmatched.

Are we sure that Ilia can still be close to 100% at 145?

If so, I'd say that Volk would have a much better shot if he could shed like 6-8 years and a couple KOs.

Not sure if that'd do it; but it definitely wouldn't hurt!
