I think he's top 5 all time as far as best wrestlers go. Maybe even top 3. He's one of very few wrestlers that can make nearly every move look real.

I don't believe he was in his right mind when he did what he did. It's been proven his brain was severely damaged due to concussions and steroid abuse and possibly severe depression.

He was a very talented piece of shit.

What he did is obviously despicable, but the guy did likely have dementia. Point being, it's not as black-and-white of an issue as many seem to think it is.

For those curious about what other people in the business think about Chris:

He killed his wife and kid. Seems pretty black and white to me. I'm not going to give him the slightest bit of a pass, because he could do a nice German suplex.

He seemed to function just fine up until that weekend, and his actions were very methodical and deliberate, so I'm not giving him the CTE caused him to go crazy excuse either.

He's a dead piece of shit.

Top15 in ring
Garbage on the mic(got better towards end of career)

Dont care about outside shit

Murdered his wife waited a day killed his Special Needs kid and hung his 10/1 Test ass with his home gym cable equipment like a bitch.

His ability as a performer is irrelevant; no one is even making such a ridiculous argument. But to take a position that a man who's brain is comparable to elderly Alzheimer's could not have played a factor in this, is (to a degree) ignoring the problem IMO.

It's really a fascinating case from an objective standpoint. One thing that I don't feel has ever been really looked at is that the anecdotes about Benoit (particularly Nancy's sister and Jericho on his podcast) suggest that he was on the autism spectrum. Obsessive behavior. Inability to understand irony/sarcasm. Socially uncoordinated.

Most family annihilators (whether premeditated or a crime of passion) kill the spouse and then they kill the children with the fear/rationale that they'd be better off dead than having to live with the knowledge that their one parent is dead and the other a murderer. Chris and Nancy were having problems and his friends say that his first divorce wrecked him for a long time. His kid was said to have possibly been special needs and that's another trigger/stressor.

I never understood what was so special about him when he was alive
He was bland and boring as fuck yet people pretended he was so amazing
People are stupid

Guy isnt worthy of a thread. Absolute scum

This, and the fact that his autopsy revealed his brain was of the condition of an 85-year-old Alzheimer patient were game changers for me.

From an in-ring performer perspective, Benoit and RVD are my all-time favorite wrestlers. So when the news hit of his and his family's passings hit the news I was enraged... they had to be murdered.

Then the news hit it was Benoit that killed his wife, kid, and then himself... I had typical denial, shock, and massive mood swings for a week. (I was still in my early 20s)

I HATED Benoit for a time, while the national media was on the story, much like @HereticBD. After the media moved on additional details came out about the autopsy, brain trauma, and possible autism... they were game changers.

Benoit was one of the most intense pro-wrestler for two decades during the most intense eras of the business. He took massive chair shots, flying headbutts, and whatever trauma to the head there was. He didn't have a first, second, third, or forth gear. He ONLY had a 5th gear. All of that contributed to his brain's condition near his passing.

As for what happened that day at his home... no one knows what flipped the switch to turn him into a murdering psychopath of his own family. No one.

Does his brain condition, trauma, and probable autism excuse what he did? No. Absolutely not. But it does give context to the situation that it wasn't regular clear minded wrestler who was one of the most respected performers in the business.... who went home and randomly murders his family.

Thankfully, pro-wrestling has now taken steps to avoid brain trauma, and even the NFL are making attempts to do the same (as much as they can).

Chris Benoit is a tragic figure, or rather that's now I choose to remember him, as a fan.

Overrated vanilla midget

Plenty of alzheimer patients dont go round murdering people.

And honestly, it was way too organised and methodical to be the actions of someone who didnt know what they were doing.

Yup, plenty of alzheimer patients do not go psycho, but many lose all sense of right & wrong or the consequences for what they do and say.

Not too far of a stretch that if the brain 85-year old advanced alzheimers was implanted into a 40-year old & 230 pound bodybuilder with emotional problems and jacked up on everything at the pharmacy... that the person could.... snap?

And honestly, it was way too organised and methodical to be the actions of someone who didnt know what they were doing.
I've heard alot about what happened in that house that day, but nothing about how it was 'organized' or 'methodical.'

He killed his 8-year-old son by using a choking variation of the crippler-crossface.

Not exactly the easiest or most methodical way to kill a 2nd grader.

after drugging him. victims all in their beds, with bibles by their sides. there was a level of detail and a certain sense of calmness and organisation about it. no bruises, no struggles, all very methodical.

Yeah, Benoit placed them there later. It shows remorse.

Its not like he killed them while they laid next to Bibles.

Picture what happened to Shane on the series finale of The Shield.

And there's no way someone can be 'Crippler Crossface' to death without bruises... or other 'signs of struggle.'
