Ever see anybody doing this? And if so, what do you think?

I can think of one possible benefit...protection from planter warts and other nasty foot ailments.

Other than that, I would hope that their socks are clean for each class.

I've seen some new people do it before, I thought it was kinda funny though.

It jus makes their traction less on the mat, which is fine with me.

Sometimes if we just open the doors to the gym in the winter, the matts are ICE COLD. Socks FTW.

Ive seen a few people do this....I think they are probably germaphobes bc you lose a lot of grip on the mat

I have flat feet so I can use my feet like hands and I can actually grip the mat (like a monkey) so I would never want to wear socks.....my freakishly ugly feet are a benefit to me haha

There are a couple of guys at my gym that do that. I’d rather get a few mat burns on my feet that lose grip personally. I’m guessing that’s why they wear them because I can’t think of any thing else.

I think moisture collects in the mat. In the morning that moisture freezes. Our mats are cold for the morning class. I wear socks for the warm up. As soon as my body is warm, I take the socks off.

Socks=no traction

i seen some guys have somehting that looks like ninja shooes on at this practice i went to this weekend.. tehy were black and they tyed up around the ankle all cloth some type of gripp on the bottom with a red circle on the sides like (chuck taylors).

Frist i have ever seen them but i guess if they have a badd case of athletes feet... By all means wear SOcks!

Happens all the time where I live.

It snows outside, and the buildings in my area dont have central heating. Nothing makes your feet go to sleep faster than cold tatame

I wore socks when I first started because I had about 10 mat burns on my feet. The socks prevented me from bleeding all over the mats and everyone else.

After a while I just got some liquid bandaid and that solved the socks problem.

I notice none of the people saying it's a horrible idea live in Michigan.

i wear them in the winter time during warm ups but take them off as soon as we get into technique and rolling

I've seen it a couple times. A little weird, but whatever.

There's a really big brown belt that occassionally teaches the beginner classes in my school. I've never seen him roll without socks on, even in no gi. One of my main training partners always wears socks also, don't know why. I personally don't like it, I'd rather be barefoot.
