i used to box and i stopped 3.5 years ago. i'm thinking about going back to striking, so do you think it's safe for me to wear the same mouthguard (it's a wipss one which costs 40 bucks). i have not had any mouth injuries and i've worn a retainer for 9 years at night

btw, please respond only if you know about this kind of stuff

i used to wear a mouthpiece that was almost 10 years old and i had no problems with it.

Your teeth can and do shift around a little every month or so, so if it doesn't feel/fit right, re-boil+bite it for a new fit so it won't put wierd/wrong/uneven pressure on your teeth when you're sparring

As long as you clean it and your teeth haven't changed too much since you last wore it, you should be fine.

I don't understand - why would wearing an old mouth guard be a problem?

the question is, how often do u wash it ?

hahahaha, that is a good question to, I usually wash it right before everytime i'm gonna be using it, at least give it a rinsing in mouthwash, and i have a case for the thing. I do know people who rarely if ever wash the suckers which i think is kinda gross, I actually almost have a phobia about using the thing if I havent at least rinsed it off.

do you guys buy them of the shelf or get them made for you?

I have braces. That means I have to reboil every month. Friggin' pain in the ass.
