Who has made a bigger mess of their franchise? Disney with Star Wars or WB/Discovery with the DC universe?

Both have had some decent success but for the most part fans are not happy with either. To be somewhat fair the DC, they’ve gone through a few different owners recently with AT&T/Time Warner and now Discovery.

I’ll admit I was pretty excited when Disney bought Lucas Arts but I also got excited when Zuffa bought Pride. I think Mandalorian is a great show. Exactly what OT fans have been waiting for especially with Jedi Master Luke fucking shit up. Book of Bobo was ok. As far as the movies go I liked Rogue One and to a lesser extent Solo. I like TFA but the final two movies were absolutely horrible.

Not really sure about the future of Star Wars either. Nothing too exciting on the horizon. I like some of Taika Waititi‘s stuff so I’m interested in his movie. Not much else besides Mandalorian season 3 and the potential Luke Skywalker series though.

DC has actually been making some decent movies. Shazam was pretty good imo. I know a lot of their other movies have fans divided. Like the whole Snyder cut thing. Again a lot of the movies divided people.

The cuts made by Discovery seem to have people upset. Seems like the company has been directionless for a while.

The CW shows were all pretty bad after season 2 of Arrow. They made multiple super hero shows for teenage girls. Strange philosophy that obviously failed now that CW is being bought.

Warner brothers is responsible for the Nolan Batman trilogy which is better than anything Disney has done with star wars.

But outside of that they're awful.

I think the mandalorian and the cartoons: clone wars, the bad batch, and rebels, are the only good things Disney has done with the star wars property. Basically only the things that Dave filoni works on... The guy that should be running shit instead of Kathleen Kennedy. He could totally be their Kevin feige if they let him.

Pretty much word-for-word, except I liked Rogue One as well.

Disney has butchered Star Wars, WB has a few things they can be proud of with DC.

The Mandolorian is the only thing Disney has going for it related to Star Wars, and it's more of an offshoot.

DC seems like the easier fix

Yeah I’m not sure what the future of Star Wars holds but I’m not too excited about it and the OT is still my favorite sci fi trilogy. I’m more scared if anything but I guess I don’t have to watch any of it (even though I will).

I feel like thats part of the conflict going on at Lucasfilm between those two.

Honestly I think both situations the studio made similar kinds of mistakes, trying to cash in fast with directors with a record of making formulaic films. Hiring JJ Abrams was really a massive mistake, Disney being way too short termist trying to get a quick return not noticing how his empty nostalgia style had poisoned Trek when they should have been building a franchise.

Edwards with Rogue One I think you could tell was someone who actually liked Starwars and the better series have followed that format.

Dark Knight Trilogy, Joker, Wonder Woman, and Man of Steel were all good to great. In the case of the DK movies they are literally the gold standard of comic book movies. Disney Star Wars is trash. VII was overrated recycled junk, VIII and IX are all time bad. Solo was crap, Rogue One was decent. Nothing approaching DC's best.

DC is just throwing shit against the wall to see what sticks, but I think that's their best trait. I love the roller coaster of it.

I would have bet the farm that any attempt at an Aquaman movie would fall on it's face. Instead it makes 1.1 billion dollars at the box office. A top 25 all time revenue earner. The guy who talks to fish. But despite earning a BILLION dollars, they can't make a sequel happen.

They can't make a Superman franchise work, but they can reimagine Taxi Driver as a Joker origin story and walk off with an Oscar.

I really dig the chaos of the whole thing. I'm not gonna watch all of it, but I'm intrigued by the approach.

Starwars is just unwatchable. It liked the OT, and hung in there for the prequels and thought the last prequel was pretty good. When the 7th movie was just the 4th movie with some tweaks I started to realize this was not a great use of time. Then the next two were reviled by the fan base. Now you need to watch 90 hours of TV if you want to follow the cannon and that's supposed to be the "fix" to the bad movies.

The thing about DC (and Marvel) movies are that they are rebootable/reimagined and it can and does work...because that happens with comics too.

SW universe not so much.

The James Gunn HBO stuff was actually pretty good, redone suicide squad and peacemaker.

Disney seems to at least do background checks for their actors.

Disney. But this is a proper match up.

WB 1000%

How do you fuck up batman, superman, AND the formation of the justice league?
