Hot Take Was Stipe the heavyweight version of Bisbing?

Even though he was a much stronger fighter than Bisbing, he does seem to have an awful lot of things in common with him.

- Neither is viewed as among the most talented, but just hard working
- Both are very punch oriented
- Both are brunettes
- neither one kicks much
- neither one grapples much

Do you guys see a similarity here or was Stipe much more talented than I give him credit for?

Nah Stipe was a legit champ who didn’t bitch out and duck the entire top 15 in his division, he put his belt on the line against all comers and still holds the record for most title defences in his division.

As for their fighting styles, Bisping was an unathletic pillow fisted volume puncher who worked hard and fluked out one knockout, Stipe had dynamite in his hands and very good wrestling, along with serious athleticism and nearly went on to be a pro baseball player.

In terms of personality, Bisping was an obnoxious shit talking loud mouth in love with the sound of his own voice, while Stipe was Mr. nice Guy, who never really had much to say at all, so no comparison there either.

But yeah, I guess they’re both brunettes so there’s that… virtually identical Joe.

Nah. GSP was a WW and he ended up knocking Bisping down and submitting. Stipe fought a LHW who moved up to HW (Maldonado) and darn near killed him with a punch.

I'm not saying Stipe was one of the 3 hardest hitting HWs ever or anything, but he had legit power. Bisping had an odd KO of Rockhold (kind of like Anderson-Weidman #1), but he didn't have much power. He must have hit Mayhem about 200 times and Mayhem didn't go down. He just kept standing there with his hands down like a crazy dude until the ref stopped it.
