He's the eric silva of this generation by now, but was the hype ever justified? I guess his best win by now is a dehydrated chiesa and even in his best wins like against edson he had bad moments.

Kevin Lee is primarily a wrestler but his cardio can’t sustain his wrestling heavy style…..so then he has to rely on his spotty stand up.

Also, it does not help that he has retained a bloated, goofy former can-kickboxer as his striking coach in Dewey something/the clown shown below.

Kinda, but way over done... the Chiesa fight made him... of course now we know Chiesa is horrible so it didn't mean that much in hindsight

He had potential if he shored up the holes in his game. Obviously he hasn't. Also he's a bit of a tweener. He's too bulky to reliably make 155, but his height and skill set is much more suited to 155 than 170.

His best win is against Gregor Gillespie, in my opinion, rather than Edson Barboza.

That win alone should buy him some more time in the UFC even if they feel he might not be value for money.

The UFC might be ready to gamble on Lee going away, realising his potential in another promotion, before coming back in 5-6 years time.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he turned up at PFL, won a Grand Prix on the 2nd or 3rd attempt, then reappeared in the UFC a better fighter.

At this point he just hasn't realised his potential and he won't do so in the UFC. He's priced out of getting easy fights, but PFL have quite a few. He'd beat someone like Natan Schulte, and he's one of their better lightweights. But yeah, he shouldn't be fighting at 170 wherever he goes.

I'm still going with "He's too big for LW and too small for WW".

He basically has to deplete himself to be a LW and he gets pushed around at 170. He's a classic example of a 'tweener.
