Belgium sounds stupid. I’m anti death penalty but complete okay that some people should stay in prison for life. The idea that prison is meant to just be a rehabilitation center only goes so far.

It's really, really stupid but some people (like Dutroux) are in it for life. Sentencing is really soft here, except if you get unlucky and get put in a criminal psychiatry thingy (I forgot the name) then you're in there until the psychiatrists/judge feels like you can be free again.

I can’t recall the country but there was this group video chat site where one guy was a complete drug addict and would drop into the room I used. I’d see this guy doing drugs then going to a rehab center where they’d still let him to (less) drugs and then him get released to start it all over again. The thing that made it disturbing is the few times he wasn’t in a daze, he would snap and start screaming and threatening people either in the chat room or people at the rehab center. One time, he was just randomly on a roof and high. I don’t think I’ll forget how crazy that guys life seemed.

Definitely thought it was someone in a Hispanic gang like the Latin Kings..... But I guess there probably aren't many Latin Kings in Belgium so that makes a lot more sense

Netflix has a show "World's Toughest Prison" and the host that has been for most of the last 3 seasons spent time behind bars himself for something he didn't do.

He goes to total shithole type prisons like what you see in Latin America, the Philipines, parts of Africa but ALSO goes to state of the art ones like in Norway and Greenland and even he says:
"I know prison is supposed to rehabilitate, but can someone like XYZ Prisoner who raped and then cut someone's head off really be rehabilitated?"
