I just found out right now that it's "make ends meet" and not "make ends meat". For as long as I could remember I always assumed it meant being so poor you couldn't afford a whole meaty rib, so you just get the meat left over when someone else is done. So when they reach the end, you get whatever meat is left.

I thought it meant making hotdogs lol
