Ok this one really triggers me because I am a member (have not served) of the Montmorency-Eltham Returned Services League, The RSL is "Australia's largest ex-service organisation, dedicated to serving those who have served, since 1916."

The cenotaph at our local war memorial was vandalised a few days ago, unfortunately there was damage to the plaque bearing the names of 38 men from this suburb who died in battle, this plaque was over 100 years old and is not salvageable apparently.

I could rant about this for a while, I guess one of the things that pisses me off is the oxygen thieves who did it are still being protected by those currently serving. Fuck these people basically

I doubt this will ever stop when people are still mad it’s on the 26th. Aboriginal anger has never been resolved.

Oh the same people will be mad if we changed the date of australia day... its not the fact that its on the 26th... is the fact that its a celebration of australia that bugs people... not the date. The 26th is also the date for the swearing in of new aussies ro their citizenship and has been for about 100 years Had quite a few confused indian drivers who got confused as to why they got abused for being patriotic. Poor chaps wanted to celebrate being australian... copped abuse for it lol

We could make it may 1st. The exact Same people will call it " invasion " day, no matter the date.

Also most of the people claiming aboriginal heritage are full of it. They arent remotely.

I mean heres the last aboriginal death in custody

The family of a Wiradjuri woman who died while in custody in Tasmania say she will be remembered "as a loving and vibrant individual" and have asked for respect while they grieve.

Chelsea Bracken, 21, died in hospital on Monday, October 27, after suffering what authorities said was a "serious medical episode" at the Mary Hutchinson's Women's Prison in Risdon Vale, southern Tasmania, where she was being held on remand.

The Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS) said it will also be supporting the Bracken family and the community "in this difficult time"

Then you have literal languages being made up .

palawa kani is a reconstructed, composite language developed by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) since the 1990s to revive Tasmanian Aboriginal languages.

Tasmanian aboriginals were sadly genocided . That is a completely made up langusge and none of them are aboriginal imo

Following British colonization in 1803, the Tasmanian Aboriginal population was reduced from an estimated 3,000–15,000 to just over 400 individuals by 1835, with only 47 surviving the move to Flinders Island by 1847. By 1876, the last of the full-blood survivors, notably Truganini, had died. However, descendants from intermarried women and sealers survived, leading to a modern population of over 27,000.

People claiming to be members of 4 tribes.... is odd as ( this is not how the tribes ever worked ) .... .

There is no minimum percentage, blood quantum, or DNA test required to claim Aboriginality in Australia. Instead, the recognized, legal, and community-accepted definition requires three components: being of Aboriginal descent, identifying as an Aboriginal person, and being accepted by the community in which you live or have roots.

not to mention the riduliculous land claims being made.
The peak aboriginal population in australia was less than a million before " colonisation
. Most think it was around 600k. Fun fact tasmania was still connected to yhe mainland about 10 000 years ago along with the connection to png.
But despite that and what has been claimed Aboriginals within australiia were still geneticallly isolated from one anoter. Zero mixing.
Internal Divergence: By 31,000 years ago, many Aboriginal communities were already genetically isolated from each other, resulting in significant diversity within the continent

Its a interesting topic imo

I think the strategy is to cut through the noise by doing something provocative to bring attention to aboriginal issues. But in doing so I suspect they alienate the average person rather than engage them.

The memorials should be off limits imo. Anybody targeting them has lost the plot. In Canberra we had vandals target memorials in the name of Gaza. Worthy cause, but all harm, no good done in that type of protest.

Pathetic and disgusting. Boohoo the Abo’s lost. They had no claim to the land, their ‘sophisticated’ culture is complete bullshit. They’re lucky the French or Dutch never settled here, they would’ve wiped them all out.

The bolded is accurate @tastaylvr . Assuming I'm an average person, I think discussion around changing the date is valid, I'd prefer it to be moved tbh if it would help things, wish we had a day where no one felt guilty celebrating it. Also not sure what desecrating a war memorial does for the cause, a lot of indigenous Aussies have served this nation as well don't forget.

Interesting post, you clearly know more about this than I do. I'd say the bolded is the best way to tell if someone is indigenous, I have a mate who is I think 1/64th indigenous, when he went to Perth to live his indigenous footy mates knew he was a "brudda" just by looking at him.

Pathetic and disgusting. Boohoo the Abo’s lost. They had no claim to the land, their ‘sophisticated’ culture is complete bullshit. They’re lucky the French or Dutch never settled here, they would’ve wiped them all out.

Hmm, not sure this is helpful, and as pointed out it wouldn't have been indigenous people who did this, most likely liberals who drove from Brunswick.

So is terrorism. Who and what you target matters.

Yep, and like I said earlier targeting people who have lost their lives serving the country is not the way to make some (IMO) reasonable points. Australia is not as overt in their respect for people who have served, we're a bit quieter about it I suppose you would say, though Anzac Day (commemorating those who have served) seems to be getting bigger every year which is a good thing.

Not sure if you have had an opportunity to attend the War Memorial in Canberra, but worth a visit to anyone. Solemn, and for me a profound experience. Try to time it with a daily Last Post ceremony if you can.
