Volunteering at a Nursing Home

That's an awesome idea, good for you. I have all the time in the world for our oldest generation. Taking the time to play a game of chess and hear about what the world was like when they grew up is time well spent. With any luck, any of us will live to be an old timer, and I sure hope people still have the time of day for me.

I hate to be a debbie downer, volunteering at nursing homes is a rewarding experience. However the inevitable will happen, one of the clients you become friendly with passes away.

It would be rewarding and sad. It wouldn't be just one he is friendly with. They all have one foot in the grave and the Reaper's hand on their shoulder.

Good for you. You have one of the more important jobs that pertains to preserving our humanity.

Just wait until you walk in on 2 75 year olds fucking. I wont step back into a nursing home, I'm scarred for life after that.

I use to think I didn't have the time but I just realized that I was just wasting time sitting around the house. Not meaning to preach, just throwing the idea out there.

This is the case with pretty much all volunteer opportunities. We tell ourselves we don't have the time to do it, but that's just an excuse. We do. I don't do nearly as much as I should because of that BS reason, but I'm working on getting better about it and doing more stuff. It's just a matter of what you prioritize, and things like this are well worth prioritizing.

Good stuff, TS

One man's 2 75 year olds fucking is another mans 2 75 year olds fucking, if you know what I mean

Good for you.

I spent a lot of time around such homes with both my grandmas.

It was equally depressing and rewarding.

Hey guys, I have been seeing a lot of depressing threads lately and I highly recommend that those of you, especially younger, take a few hours each weekend of any day you arn't busy and go to a nursing home to volunteer. I was seriously like a lot of you depressed and such but spending a few hours playing dominoes with a guy who doesn't have much family left or just drinking coffee and talking with many of the residents really helps. At least 90% of them smile all day if you say hi, come in, and know their name. Most of them even kick my ass at Wii bowling.

I use to think I didn't have the time but I just realized that I was just wasting time sitting around the house. Not meaning to preach, just throwing the idea out there.

If that's how you meet your women, fine with me.
