So in the OT someone started a thread about which is better vitamin water or propel. Coincidentally this happened just days after I bought a case of each at Sam's club.

Here are my findings.

For your daily workout I found that Propel unlike regular Gatorade is fine to drink while working out.

Gatorade due to it's ingredients is not meant for consumption before or during a work out. It is meant to replace what your body uses after the work out. You may argue that, but it's what I have noticed. If you drink Gatorade regularly without workout you may find yourself having headaches.

Propel is good for any time consumption, but I normally drink it when I plan to work out. It is low carb so it fits into my diet just fine. The taste is outstanding and always quenches my thirst. While working out I always find myself filling the bottle back up with water too. At 2 hours of being at the gym I can easily drink between 20-40 oz of fluids.

Vitamin water on the other hand I don't think I would use it for workout purposes. It tastes great and as far as I can tell will work fine for regular consumption. The drink itself (if you buy a case) has a dietary guidline that if you follow actually works pretty well. I say get a case and see for yourself. Its not some magic elixir or anything, but i have notice a difference in many aspects of daily routine (i.e. energy, focus, and stamina).

So if you are sick of drinking water try these and you may be surprised. Don't give up water altogether just try to give yourself some variety so that you will not get burnt out.

So these are my findings. Feel free to comment if you think I am full of sh*t say so. If you have and questions comments or anything say so as well.

Take care

I would say Propel is better as a peri-workout fluid replacement drink when you're trying to lose weight, and Gatorade is better for maintenance or bulking (adjust intake accordingly per goal).

Vitamin water is delicious, is it alright to drink without working out? because i crave it when im not working out, i know friggintits already said something about it but i wanna get more opionions

Some of the vitamin content in those waters is so low that i dont even know if its worth it or not.

the optimum thing to drink during workout is something like a 5% carbohydrate (glucose) solution with some electrolytes. depending on how concentrated you make your gatoradie, thats probably about right (im Uk so not sure)
I used to use SiS Go electrolyte, then got shitloads of bags of some generic equivilant left over from a marathon! nearly finished on that so may have to mix some up soon!

you can also add some branched chain amino acids, but the glucose is the importnt thing, and will enhance performance by absorbing quickly into the bloodstream even during exercise. I cant find anything in y old sports phys textbook, but we did a research project on this and I have some published study somewhere, will see if I can find it.

Wal-Mart now sells packets of propel powder that you can add to water. If you already have a bottle, it's a helluva lot cheaper... I mix my arginine and creatine in with it and drink half before workout and half durin', plus refill with water once or twice... So far so good.
