Carlinhos just means "little Carlos". When you look at the names on Brazilians and the Gracies included, there will often be kids of different generations/eras who have the same first names as older cousins/uncles. Popovitch probably just meant the "little Carlos" of his age group. My Mom's family is Irish and there are little Patricks, little John, Big Patrick, Big John, Our little Philip, Their little Philip,etc... All in the same family but given diminutives and such.
