The taxes to Rome are outrageously high. Not to mention the long and deep rooted history of Venice.
Right, but all of Italy is basically a conglomerate state right?
I mean, what's next, Florence, Piedmont, Genoa, etc. all want their own country? I ahd no idea things were so bad there that secession seems like a legit option.
The south is backwards. So the north wants out. But still becoming a micro nation is dumb. Hard to have a military deterrent with a small nation size. Is look out for Russia
I doubt Russia is concerned with Italy's military now either. that isn't the deterrent, NATO is.
True, NATO is there, but smaller countries can't afford proportionally a similar military. Which may erode NATO's effectiveness.
