Bishop Robert Byrne

The Vatican has launched an extraordinary investigation into a "sex party" held on the property of a British cathedral during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Catholic leaders are looking into the sex party as part of a wider inquiry into the circumstances around the resignation of Robert Byrne, who stepped down as bishop of Hexham and Newcastle in December.

The Archbishop of Liverpool, leading the investigation, said the Pope’s advisers have asked him to put together “an in-depth report into the events leading up to Bishop Byrne’s resignation”, according to the Sunday Times.

“A number of complaints were made by individuals within the diocese after information came to light about a sex party taking place in the priests’ living quarters attached to Newcastle cathedral,” a source told the paper. There is no suggestion Bishop Byrne took part in or was present at the sex party.

Another source told the paper that before the bishop resigned “the cathedral had become a laughing stock."

Newcastle Cathedral

He became bishop in 2019, replacing the popular Father Dermott Donnelly, the older brother of Declan Donnelly, of Ant and Dec fame and was hugely popular, with Father Michael McCoy.

The Sunday Times reported that during lockdown, when churches were largely closed, McCoy asked several people if they would like to come to “a party” at the cathedral.

McCoy later committed suicide in April 2021 after learning that Northumbria Police were investigating an allegation of historic child sexual abuse against him.

Another investigation, led by the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA), has been launched into the relationship between convicted sex offender Fr. Tim Gardner and the diocese.

Gardner, who was given a suspended prison sentence for making and possessing child sexual abuse images, was allegedly offered to stay at church-owned accommodation in the Newcastle diocese after being found guilty.

never trusted this Church and its leaders. they are so knee deep into diabolical, creepy shit.

"The Archbishop of Liverpool.."

The mental footage I'm getting of an Archbishop giving a sermon in a scouse accent is taking away from the gravitas of the story. I'm literally getting John Bishop, in a funny hat, going on and on about Jesus.

Other than that, fuck the Catholic Church. It's beyond salvage in my eyes.

Imagine how sore the kids are the next day. Burn it down.

The guy in Louisiana did it better.

The Vatican owns a building/street with brothels in it in Italy.

Nothing to see here

Allegedly sexually abused children, then commits the mortal sin of suicide?

Yeah, have fun where you're going, pal

Yeah it's pretty fucking terrible.

I was raised in an absolutely fucking awesome Catholic Church. I could go on about it for hours man, the people here wouldn't even believe me about all the legitimate good they've done in the city. It's an institution. But fucking hell, the Vatican is an evil place, the Pope and the Pope before him are demons and the whole structure is just foul. It's awful.

I was brought up Roman Catholic and had no bad experiences myself. But fuckin hell you're right about the Vatican. It's one of the least Christ like places on the planet. Kick over a table? Naw man, Jesus would burn the whole thing to the ground. And I'd help him light the torch.

Kind of a bizarre piece trying to make it sound like a child sex party when it doesn't look like anybody's claiming that.
They didn't allege that but what sort of sex party would a :eek::eek::eek::eek:phile priest have at a cathedral, 'grab a granny'? The same organisation that let another convicted :eek::eek::eek::eek:phile stay in church owned accommodation in the same city? I don't think it's a massive stretch to think kids might be involved or even if they weren't a :eek::eek::eek::eek:phile organising a sex-party in a cathedral during lockdown isn't a great advertisement for the clergy in Newcastle.

That's exactly what I'm talking about.

"The same organization" is how they tricked you into associating a non guilty person with a guilty person. It's like taking Epstein, then giving all the people who met with him after his conviction, then all the people who met those people to discredit the entire media.

How is that the same? The priest killed himself because police were investigating him for historic child sex abuse.:eek::eek::eek::eek:philes don't generally just stop being attracted to children. He was a priest, do you think it's appropriate to be organising sex parties in a cathedral, in lock down, which was illegal by itself. Clearly he is someone who does not give a shit about he convention or laws. No one is accusing the Bishop of having done anything over than it happening under his watch.

What non-guilty people? Are we talking about Bill Clinton or Donald Trump? The only person to get long lasting significant reputational damage from that affair was Prince Andrew and the only person that got convicted was Ghislaine Maxwell.

Clinton's reputation was already bad and Donald Trump's isn't exactly great either.

So am I to take it that the people investigating the Catholic church are...

...

The Catholic church?

"given a suspended prison sentence for making and possessing child sexual abuse images" Bro come on. UK soft on :eek::eek::eek:philes per usual.

One piece of shit abused his step-daughter for years. Her mother didn't know, and left him the family house when she died. The daughter took him to court, and the so-called judge not only ruled in his favour, but awarded him £35,000 in legal costs. So the abuse victim lost her house and has to pay a massive amount of money.

Makes me proud to be British:rolleyes:
