Downey is a US Open Champion, World Team member, Junior World silver medalist, D1 All American, and ranked 9th in the world at 189lbs.

JP O'Connor was an NCAA D1 champ that had a 35-0 undefeated season.

Most people don't know that Usman is actually more accomplished than Colby in amateur wrestling. D2 champ and was a part of the US national team for World university games. Only the best collegiate wrestlers get invited to try out for the US team and Colby wasn't one of them.

Oftentimes D2 champs are better than D1 All Americans, but choose to wrestle D2 because of school preference or academic issues.

There's plenty of technique in Usman's cage wrestling, grip fighting, wrist rides, and clinchwork

Usman is a far better MMA wrestler than Koscheck ever was, and would've beat him in a straight up freestyle wrestling match too.

GSP also had no success holding Koscheck down at all, he got up immediately every single time.

Prime GSP may outstrike Usman but he would never outwrestle him even in MMA.

Dude! Appreciate the facts about usman and his accomplishments but D2 is so so so behind div 1 it’s not even funny. Literally no one goes D2 unless they can’t get into d1.

Yeah but I'm saying that factors outside of Usman's wrestling ability may have been in play, like academic issues

Usman also took up wrestling when he was 16, which is probably the latest I've ever heard for an elite guy, so he might've been a late bloomer in that sense
 
What is the point of this post? MMA is not collegiate wrestling. GSP dominates Colby and Usman, he has the striking and the wrestling perfectly coordinated. GSP dominated Jon Fitch a wrestler that was on a dominant 8 fight UFC win streak before GSP and a 5 fight win streak after fighting GSP. I doubt Colby beats a prime fitch and Usman probably would but he's not getting past prime GSP.

Jon Fitch was a terrible amateur wrestler who was as one dimensional as it gets in MMA with terrible striking. Fitch isn't even 30% of the wrestler Usman and Colby are.

Fitch was 14-2-1 in the UFC and would have held the title if it wasn't for GSP. Once again for you because you didn't get it the first time, MMA is not collegiate wrestling I think you have the 2 things confused. You even contradicted yourself, claiming Fitch was a one dimensional MMA fighter but a terrible collegiate wrestler? So he was a dominant MMA wrestler but not a good collegiate wrestler... FUCK college wrestling this is an MMA forum retard what someone did in college means nothing compared to professional MMA.

Lmao Fitch racked up wins against cans and was exposed multiple times by D level fighters

Fitch was a terrible collegiate wrestler that never beat anyone with elite takedown defense, Usman applies his wrestling to MMA far better than Fitch and GSP

Jake Shields (a better wrestler than Fitch) went like 0-21 in takedowns against Woodley. Usman absolutely mauled a better version of Woodley with ease.
 
With your retard logic Ben Askren would be one of the best MMA fighters of all time because look at his amateur wrestling championships... Face it bud collegiate wrestling credentials don't automatically make you a great MMA fighter. Get over it bud GSP would smother Colby and Usman and you have no reason to think otherwise.

Askren's striking was far worse than Usman and Colby's (also much slower) so he had trouble getting into positions to use his wrestling. Prime Ben was a beast btw

Colby and Usman have shown their wrestling chops in MMA and ability to mix it up with their striking
 
Yeah he beat them in freestyle.

It would be interesting to see how a folkstyle match would go.

Herbert and Reader best Usman no problem in free. Herbert is a different level though.
