So I have won a really good value but 'unbleached' Gi off ebay.
I really want it dyed white so my question is 'how do you dye/bleach it white?'

As you can probably imagine I have never had to intentionally alter the colour of any clothing before- I always just buy stuff in the right colour instead! But this relly needs to be done, dont know if you have seen and unbleached GI (course you have) but it is quite a striking creamy yellow colour (even the white belt is the same!!) and just looks terrible compared to white.

Any suggestions appreciated (bare in mind I am a totally noob when it comes to this stuff).
Thanks.

i havent dyed anything before. so ic ant say

but why not pink...? :'(

off to bed ttt for people to help u

If its like the HCK..or any top quality Unbleached Gi...Just train in it for a few times, then keep washing it (cold obviously). After it's tossed in the wash for a few times....it'll turn from creamy yellow to a tinted white. Then after you wash it even more, it'll turn into pure white.

I am not a rocket scientist but wouldn't the most logical way of turning an unbleached gi white be bleaching it?

well l did heard of cases whereby a unbleached gi would turn white after repeated wash.if fighting talk is not in a rush then he might try doing this.

I own two unbleached kimonos from HCK...

Both are basically white now because I train in them and wash them regularly...you don't need to use bleach, you don't need to "dye" it anything...just wear it and wash it...the tan-ness will fade over time...

You don't want to put any sort of chlorine bleach on it (or any gi for that matter) because bleach weakens the clothing fibers...you want your kimono to be durable, afterall...

You end up getting the HCK? Cause whatever detergent you're using...and it's turned the HCK unbleached white...I wanna use that...

Mine aren't 100% pure white...but they're definitely a LOT lighter than when I initially got them...

If you don't just want to wash it over and over like everyone else is suggesting start with a very low concentration of bleach and put it on an inconspicuous area then work your way up until you have the level of whiteness you want. Bleach is caustic stuff and it can easily burn/eat holes in your clothes...

Ok, didnt realise it would just turn white eventually. Hmmm. Thanks. Never would have guessed!
My main concern was weakening it with too high a dose of bleach; but I guess I will just continue to wear and wash and see if it gradually becomes less hideous!! Seriously its a fine Gi really... just a funny colour!

it will turn white or look close enough to what a white gi should look like after months of use..

AHHA, no no...I just used what you said in the past as an example. :)....I would so wear an HCK if it was unbleached, I wouldn't really care :)....but some people might laugh at me because of the piss color..but w/e. :P

I could care less if it was bleached/unbleached..as long as I get the training time then I'm fine -_-..

I have read that most cotton fabric is bleached using hydrogen peroxide, not sodium hypochlorite like in clorox. I have no idea how much peroxide is actually used in the bleaching process, though. If you wanted to bleach your gi a bit faster, using peroxide would probably do the trick, and shouldn't weaken the fabric. Maybe you can find out more exact concentrations using google...

A small scoop of "Oxyclean" is all I use whenever I get blood or something...maybe that has something to do with the whitening of my kimono...
