Joanne Wood, who began her UFC tenure in late 2014, has been cut from the organization, according to reports. Dang guys, this one sucks. I liked JoJo a lot; she had fun fights, and I couldn't wait to hear her mousey voice in that Scottish accent during the post-fight interview. Of course, on a 3 fight skid, that'd been a little while.

What do you say fellas? I thought she'd earned a place in the roster even if she had lost 3 straight. Lauren Murphy got a TS and looked better than ever the other night, and Alexa Grasso is a legit threat in the division. That fight was in March, I wonder why they're cutting her now? It'd be great to have her on the card this weekend - I wonder if that was ever talked about. Was she turning down fights? I just hate to see it. Another name I know released and more guys I've never heard of shoved in the prelims.

I have to wonder if the contract she ended with priced her out.

It's one thing to negotiate a solid deal, but it limits who you're going to face, and it limits the number of times you're going to be allowed to lose.

Seeing as she got Taila Santos and Alexa Grasso back-to-back after a narrow defeat to Lauren Murphy, I imagine the UFC wanted out of her contract.

Some fighters get cursed by their contract.

The UFC isn't going to pay MOST fighters well to fight easier opponents, so reaching a certain level of fame and pay tends to mean you face nothing but killers.

I think this happens way more than people realise.

I think it has more to do with how she is looked in her loses. She hasn’t even looked competitive lately at all

I see it all the time. Guys like Rashad, Pettis, Dan Henderson, Chris Weidman.... even Holly Holm.

They get to a point where they are making 6 figures, usually after a title run, and even though there are absolutely fighters they could beat, to rebuild or take as a "tune up fight" they get matched up with killers or get fed to build up some up and coming monster.

That's the flip side of the equation when we see how boxers are protected and pad their records, while generally MMA fighters fight a very high level of competition. For the most part it is good for fans, but to preserve longevity of rebuild confidence there is a certain amount of value to those "tune up fights" that MMA fighters don't get to benefit from.

Personally I think it is pretty dumb how the UFC fucks over and mistreats their aging/former stars and often I think it is bad business.

Why not continue to make money off their name after spending so much time and promotional money BUILDING them up? Why wouldn't the UFC do more even playing field "senior circuit" type of fights?

Very intelligent and relevant argument.

Releasing fighters with double figures-worth of UFC fights rather than retaining them because they make a certain amount?

Pretty crazy, especially if you feel fighter pay is way too low.
