Two years previous to this, Luke Rockhold had submitted Bisping in round two with a choke, and gone on to win the MW championship by defeating Chris Weidman.

The Rockhold/Weidman rematch was scheduled for June 4, but on May 17th, Chris Weidman pulled out of the fight with serious injuries, and Bisping was slotted in, on two weeks notice.

Bisping at this time was on a three fight win streak and had beaten the former champion and legendary fighter Anderson SIlva in his previous fight. For his part, Bisping was very confident, he had no doubt he could get the job done, despite losing the first fight to Luke. A long time UFC fighter, there was no doubt some UFC fans were pulling for Mike, who just was never able to string the right wins together to earn a title shot before.

Luke Rockhold was pretty dismissive, since he'd already beaten Bisping before, and had better scalps on his record.

This was the fight that did it for Mike. Through this win, he earned himself a Hall of Fame induction and basically a job for life. Dude validated his whole career in one single performance.

What was your thoughts in the lead up and the aftermath?

"There’s nothing I do better than fighting.I am an average guy, more than average. This is my dream. Two weeks notice. I’ll fight anyone, anywhere. I can’t speak.... apart from my children and my wife, this is the greatest day of my life.”

I missed this event for some reason I can't even remember why now, but when I looked on wikipedia the next morning and saw Bisping defeats Rockhold by KO (punches) I was just like no fucking way.

I wanted him to do it but figured he had no chance on 5 days notice or whatever it was , I had no idea that he was also half blind as well

I was happy when Bisping won, but then I was very unhappy for the next two years when he ducked the entire top 15 and completely fucked up the MW division.

Then I was happy again, when GSP strangled him, and when Kelvin bounced his head off the canvas to send him to retirement.

But now I’m unhappy once again, because I gotta listen to him talk with that annoying accent and hear his stupid takes in the commentary.

People forget, but Luke absolutely styled on him in the first fight. One arm mounted gilly'd his ass, looking like he was posing the camera. Ping caught his lightning in a bottle that night. Fair play.

all my buddies hated Bisping so I got to gloat a lot and still get too! ha ha ha It was just me and my buddy Jon watching at his place and he was falling asleep during the fight he got woke up real quick. lol My other friend got all his Groomsmen signed UFC gloves by our favorite fighters and he got me a Bisping signed glove. I'm not sure if that was before or after this fight but is still pretty damn cool.

Craziest part was Mike wasn't even in training camp he was literally filming XXX The Return of Xander Cage. He walked off the movie set kicked Luke's ass and took his title.
