Damn, Shogun wasn't even 30 years old when he won that title. He was already far past his prime at that point. Makes you realize what these guys sometimes go trough. Few PRIDE guys competed at their best for more than about 5 years. Kinda heartbreaking, but the memories are worth it

I'm suprised Rampage was so young even when he got to UFC. He's always around 35 even when he was in Pride to me lol.

To me it was Chuck who was always 35 since he was in Pride til his last UFC fight, lol

Yeah Rampage was always really young at Pride, but his facial features and physique always made him look a little older.

Handy and Jan skewed the number

So did Jones.

Again, it's not taking into account how long each champ held their title, or how old they were when they lost it. Jones was champ from 23-33. It's fucks the numbers a bit. This is just to see the average age of champs when they became the champ.

Nice work. Going through all your posts wrt ages, the pattern seems to be lighter weight division have slightly lower (in general, except for MW) ages, but a noticeably smaller spread (LHW and HW especially have a big spread, perhaps in part because of Couture winning in his 40's).

Couture, Werdum, and Cormier raise the ceiling at HW.

Jones, Tito, and Shamrock lower the floor at LHW.

Updated OP to show the new LHW champ Glover Teixeira at age 42!

The average went from 31.21 to 31.94 with Glover's addition as the oldest LHW champ in history.

Imagine young Jon against young Vitor!!! That would have been a matchup made in heaven!!!

No one skewed the numbers.

31 seems about right. It takes longer in MMA to get all the well-rounded skills to be champ.
